Wake from Standby and Recording Service set to High Priority

Last night I went into config.xml and set <ForceHighPriorityRecordingService> to true (to test if this would help with recording quality problems I've been having when multitasking the machine during a recording) and then this morning I noticed that my automatic EPG update (wake from standby) did not work -- the machine did not come on. Could the priority change for the recording service somehow have caused the update problem?

My EPG update has been waking my machine each day and working fine for months, until this morning. The priority change was the only change I made...

Yes, possibly. I dont recommend changing the default priority - it's really easy to starve other processes of CPU.

would be doing much at that time...

That's too bad because giving the recording service a higher priority solved the recording quality problem I was having (occasional dropped frames, jerkyness, etc) when an application would use a lot of CPU while I was recording a show.

Would raising the client to high priority (while also keeping the recording service at high priority) help with the waking of the machine? I see that there is a setting for that in the config.xml file.

I wasnt talking about when it was in standby, but rather when the machine was awake and trying to do the EPG update... Changing the priority could affect the running of the automatic EPG update on some setups (where external processes may need to run to fetch data etc).

This is exactly why I dont advocate doing it. First people raise the priority on one process, only to find some other process isnt working, so they raise the priority on that other process... only to do it all again with some other process soon after.

You're welcome to try it of course, but its up to you to fine a balance that works well on your system. For most people, things just work smoother if you leave it at the default priorities.

As I said, I dont know if this is the cause of your problem, but it is a possible cause.

I don't think my original question was expressed clearly enough. My machine is no longer waking up from standby since I raised the priority of the recording service. The EPG is not updating only because the machine is not waking up, and, as such, is an incidental problem. So let me re-pose the question:

Could the priority change for the recording service somehow have caused the machine not to come out of standby?
