Yes, I know Windows does not like duplicate volumes. But this is not a duplicate volume, I only have one E:. The new disk does not have its own driveletter, it is mounted as a mountpoint in an empty directory (E:\Shares\Video) on the old E: drive. In the same way you mount filesystems in Unix. I am sure you already grasped this but I just want to make clear exactly what my setup is.

So if I look at the size of E: in windows (for example just by taking properties of E: it tells med size and free space of this disk (or rater the filesystem on this partition). And if I do the exact same thing on E:\Shares\Video it tells me the size and free space on the new drive. This is also what I expected EWA to do aswell, i.e. not to grab the size of the drive-letter disk and instead view the size and free space of the drive the selected folder is on. Perhaps I am one of the few people that uses this approach but it was really easy just to copy all recordings to the new drive and not having to reconfigure anything within GBPVR.

If this is a problem with Windows API I can live with it, everything is working fine. Just wondered if it was an easy fix because in that case it would have been nice. I love the functionality of GBPVR and EWA so this is not such a big thing for me.

UncleJohnsBand Wrote:Try chaninging your recordings setting in the config.xml file in the GBPVR directory to use a unc encoding rather than the mapped drive.....i.e. instead of using e:\dir\dir......use \\pcname\sharename.....

This may work.....let me know.

I will try this approach and after a test (I just viewed Properties of the share) it looks promising. Right now I have a few recordings scheduled but when they are through I will try it...

Just tried putting \\server\Video\Recordings as the path to the recordings directory. And EWA gives me: Could not load disk info for \\server\Video

So it did not work, but if I map the share into windows and then take properties it shows me the correct numbers. Perhaps something Microsoft forgot to put in the API?

Have you tried this from a network outside your local network. I know with my setup, from inside my local network the router will not let me outside and back in . ie. I can't use my no-ip name when I'm inside the network. Probably just a routing issue with the router. Although it works perfectly fine outside the network. From inside I usually just go to either
1. the ip address
2. add an entry to my hosts file

Carlito, thanks, but, I'm outside the network now and still no luckSad . I can still ping my machine using the no-ip, though I can't tell if the port is open. I doubt it is, since, like I said, one of the online port scanners told be that port timed out.
Could the the isp (bellsouth dsl) perhaps be blocking the port? That wouldn't be good.

I beleive Bell South only blocks port 25 (smtp). Perhaps the router is not configured properly or you have another firewall program running (although I'm sure you've checked these, I'm just out of ideas)

Carlito, thanks. I'll try and try more stuff when I get home. Might even call Linksys and see what they say!

Now I see what you are saying.....I think.....

You added a new drive and made it e:....like your old drive and setup the folders as they were on the old e: drive.

The reason you are seeing the whole drive space is becuase no matter where you are on the e: drive you can use the max amount of space that is availble on that drive....you are not locked down to just the space that is in a subdirectory.

So if you have a 250 gb drive and 5 directories on that drive any one of those directories could use the full 250 gb of space....so when you look at the available space via EWA it shows you the total amount of space that is available on the drive since that is what is available to use.

Does that make sense?

fldavem Wrote:OK, I've read as much of the thread as I could find that was relative to the port 7647 issue and here's a recap of my situation:

A dynamic dns setup from my home gbpvr to static "mynewname.no-ip.org" and pinging mynewname.no-ip.org works.

Windows XP
  • firewall temporarilly disabled
    OR I TRIED
  • added program gbpvr and TCP port 7647 to the Windows Firewall exception list
Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless B Router
  • Port Range Fwd: "gbpvr1" from 7647 to 7647, both TCP & UDM, fwd to my gbpvr system
  • UPnP DFwd: "gbpvr" external port 7647 TCP to internal 7647 on gbpvr system
Now, I can get to the guide by localhost:7647, but not even while on my gbpvr machine can I use either the mynewname.no-ip.org:7647 or what my dynamic-address:7647 really is.

Any ideas what to try next? Again, I can ping mynewname and get a response. I don't think it's gbpvr, 'cause I just tried ultraVnc and couldn't connect from my laptop, though I could force a connection starting on my desktop. Ugh!

Should only need to forward TCP on 7647 for the EWA. No need for UPnP setup.

If you do a netstat on the gbpvr host do you see 7647 listening?

As for pinging the machine you are most likley pinging your router....most routers will reply to a ping unless you turn it off....for your actual gbvpr machine to reply to a ping you would have to have your router forward the port (which I am not sure which one it is) for a ping request to go to the gbpvr server....so your ping is just showing that you are reaching the router and not really getting to your machine.

Do you have more than one PC at home on the network? If so, can you reach it via http://pcname:7647/gbvpr/guide.aspx or http:pc.ip.address:7647/gbvpr/guide.aspx?

Ok....first we need to make sure VLC can actually process the file.....on the gbpvr machine open up VLC and open up the file: D:\TV\Teletubbies\Teletubbies_20061003_06300700.d vr-ms

Does it play ok?

If so, in VLC selectg view from the menu and then select stream and media info. What information is listed in the Advanced information tab?

Actually, I don't see that listed at all!
