I had this working once but now I've forgotten. I just did a fresh install of Windows XP Pro on my computer and installed the latest version of GBPVR. In CONFIG I chose 1 server for MVP. I turned on my MVP and it states LOADING APPLICATION and just sits there. There really isn't anything else required to install to have this running...correct? You don't need to install anything from Hauppauge...correct?

Why is there a GBPVR MediaMVP Server listed in the START MENU. Doesn't this start automatically when GBPVR runs when booting up? I don't understand why that option is there as well.

I've been there, adding things and changing configuration settings over time, and then forgetting what you did when you have to re-install. Rolleyes

Here are a couple of things that come to mind: Do you have a firewall? If so, is it configured to allow GBPVR.exe and GBPVRRecordingService.exe access to the network? Do you have a dhcp server, to assign an ip to the mvp? (if you have a router on your network, that will probably provide the dhcp server)

Thanks. I do have a firewall (windows xp's and the router's). The XP pop-up came up on the server asking if I wanted to UNBLOCK gbpvr.exe since it was attempting to send info across the network. I selected UNBLOCK. I didn't see an entry for the recording service so I unblocked that one as well. See the attached screenshot for what the exceptions look like.

What confuses me is I seem to remember in the past that I had to install the hauppauge mvp software for gbpvr to work with the mvp. I could do that again but I would rather not if I could avoid it. I just see the posts where it says the hauppauge software isn't needed.

The router is setup for DHCP.

Oh, I forgot to ask, I still don't understand the need for the gbpvr mvp server under PROGRAMS? Doesn't the MVP service start automatically when gbpvr is running?

run> msconfig and under services make sure you have GBPVR recording service enabled and running. Stop any references you have to MVP services. Reboot.

Weird. I did what you said above and still nothing. The MVP can see the MVP software just fine when it is running but when I turn off the MVP services and turn on the GBPVR recording service the MVP doesn't see it.

Assuming you have the MVP software installed. All services configured correctly. Your firewall configured and GBPVR running ok on your pc and number of servers set to autostart set to 1 then it should be ok.

Try disabling your firewall and see if you have any joy. Reboot the MVP. Still no joy then reinstall MVP software.

If that fails I would look into the router setup.

You did stop both hauppauge mvp-services when you try to use the gbpvr service?

I'm having the same problem. Everything was working great, the wife turned off the MVP and, for another unrelated reason, the PC rebooted, now the MVP comes up on the "Preferred Server" screen and every time I scan for the server - no love.

I installed Ethereal and sniffed the traffic coming from the MVP and I can see it making a WCCP (I think that is the protocol) request on port 16881, but the server never responds. I did a netstat -a on the server and I can see it listening on port 16881.

I've rebooted the server and the MVP multiple times (always bringing the MVP up after the server is up and running). I've verified that the recording service is running and that the autostart MVP servers setting is 1. I don't have the MVP software installed and I don't have a firewall running on the server (XP sp2). The MVP has an ip address (I can ping it).

I've looked in the log files and I don't see anything after initial startup. I'm at work, otherwise I'd attach the log files to this post.

Any ideas on what to do next?

I quite often get this after power has been removed from the mvp (wireless in my case) - Rebooting the mvp (green button) seems to sort it out...
