Hi

Does anybody know if it is possible to change resolution depending on the content you want to play, or if it is possible to write a plugin that handles this?

for example, i want to change resolution depending on whether i'm playing 23.976 fps, 25 fps, 29.97 fps 30 fps or other.

Can this be done using gbpvr?

Thanks

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but anyway:
You can use F7 to change aspect-ratio (AR), so if you play a certain file, click F7 until it suits your needs. You can add/change the AR's in config.xml if you need to.
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

I think what he is trying to do is change the output resolution and format depending on the media he is playing, I know he would want 720x480 for 29.97fps and 720x540 for 30fps, not sure about the other framerated though, and I have no idea why he would want to do this BUT I can say that gbpvr does not set the windows desktop resolution. (to my knowledge)

Hi

First, thanks all for your responses.

HtV: No, it's not due to aspect ratios. I'm trying to achieve the best and smoothest playback. As I have experienced, the best way to accomplish this is to adapt the refresh rate. Odd framerate conversion will always be degraded quality-wise.

Ted the Penguin: You are partially correct. But since you say that GBPVR cannot change the desktop resolution i guess it's a no, it can't be done.

nitrogen_widget: No, actually i have plain (old?) sony trinitron 32" widescreen tv.

Concretely, here's what i want to achieve (Have in mind, that i live in a PAL country):

First a list of the screenmodes required for my current setup. When aquiring an HDTV the list will be modified/expanded.

PAL: 768/720 x 576 @ 50hz Interlaced
NTSC: 768/720 x 480 @ 59.94Hz Interlaced
FILM: 768/720 x 480 @ 47.952Hz Interlaced

The most important things about these resolutions are the number of scanlines and the refresh rates. I will use powerstrip or a modified driver to get the display modes.

The GBPVR menu will run in the PAL displa mode (or any of the other, it doesn't matter to me). Then when I play some media, e.g. a movie with an FPS of 23.976, GBPVR will change to the FILM display mode. If I play a movie with an FPS of 29.97, GBPVR will change to the NTSC display mode.

All I actually want from GBPVR is the ability to change the display mode based on the FPS of the media being played.

Thanks.

No, GB-PVR has no mechanism to change the resolution or refresh rate depending on content, and I have no plans to add this feature - sorry.

You may be able to use the application launcher to launch custom screen profiles manually then you can play the file you want.

Would it be possible to write a videolibrary plugin with a media-player of its own where the plugin changed screen mode before playing the file? I guess the plugin would have to change back to the previous screen mode in order not to mess up the gbpvr-menu?

Thanks.

Now I know that there's a possible solution to my problem using gbpvr.
