PriorityRecording Interaction with Built In Scheduler

Hi All,

I have a question as to how CDK interacts with the built in GBPVR scheduler. What I mean by this, is what happens when there are recordings scheduled both with the built in scheduler and CDK?

I guess my main question is that if there is a show scheduled with CDK and one scheduled with the built in scheduler, which takes priority?

Thanks...

I use CDK but I’m not an expert on it, or anything for that matter.

From “readmetxt.txt” in the gbpvr folder.
Code:
* MissingPriorityRecording = either 0 for highest priority, or 9999 for lowest priority.  Tell the
scheduler how to treat recordings it doesn't know about (i.e. aren't in the PriorityRecordings.xml
file.)  This option is currently not checked by the program.

“This option is currently not checked by the program.”
I have no idea what that means, it sounds like the setting doesn’t work anyway?

I’ve found by trial and error that gbpvr scheduled recordings take priority over CDK.

Unless the show is in the rectracker database, and is “also” scheduled in PriorityRecordings.xml
Or you have “Record duplicates” set to false in X-Recordings “scheduler” for that title.
And you use deleteschedule.exe

If the conditions above are met, the gbpvr scheduled show will be removed when the epg is updated.

Good question. I have 97.13 installed (Access DB) and I've always wanted to just use priorityrecording.exe without Xrecord or any of the Xsuite and just use the built-in scheduler and recorder. I haven't really seen a lot of support in the forums for this kind of thing. Anybody know how I would get this setup to work with 97.13 or 98.8 if I upgrade?

Will this work? I've been wanting to try it, but don't have a testing rig. Any help or insight is greatly appreciated. Big Grin

The fix you referenced does seem to work, as I'm running Xrecord on 98.8.

I think you can use just priorityrecording.exe by itself, but without xrecord you'll have to manually enter shows into the .xml file, as you can't use the built in scheduler to control it.

Thanks for the confirmation of it working. Yeah, I'll have to edit the xml file manually, which is fine by me, and have the xsd file that comes along with it.

MissingPriorityRecordings does work. The default is to have them as 0. So that Recordings that were manually scheduled by GBPVR do not get deleted or put into conflict status when a Priority Recording takes place. If you always want Priority recordings to take precendence then set the value in the PriorityRecordings.xml file to 9999.

What you do want to avoid is the situation where you have the same program scheduled in PriorityRecordings.xml, AND in GBPVRs built in scheduler. It really can get flakey that way.

I personally don't use XRecord for my scheduling, and just manually update my PriorityRecordings.xml, or use the barely useable Web Admin interface Ton and I started building several months ago, but we ran out of time to complete.

So, yes it is do able to use CDK without XRecord, but you need to edit the XML file manually.

Should I remove all of my reoccurring programs from the built in scheduler to avoid them being scheduled and add them to the .xml file?

Will my pending recordings show up in the pending section of the built in recorder if I do this?

All recordings scheduled by CDK Scheduler will show up as one time recordings. So yes, you can safely add your reoccuring recordings to the XML file, and have CDK Scheduler schedule them. The advantage is that you can prioritize your recordings this way, where with the built in scheduler it is first in first out.

I use CDK Scheduler for all my reoccuring recordings, and the built in scheduler for quick one time only recordings from the TV Guide, or manually scheduled recordings.

I am running the latest version of GBPVR.... .99.5. I have upgraded xrecord to the latest version, and from what I am seeing via the posts in the forum, the error that I am seeing:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting
Event Category: None
Event ID: 5000
Date: 1/18/2007
Time: 3:12:10 AM
User: N/A
Computer: P4
Description:
EventType clr20r3, P1 priorityrecording.exe, P2 0.0.0.0, P3 44dd1f9b, P4 priorityrecording, P5 0.0.0.0, P6 44dd1f9b, P7 1, P8 17, P9 system.missingmethodexception, P10 NIL.

is a resultof xrecord needing to be recompiled to work properly with .net 2.0.

Is there a chance that this recompile will happen any time soon? I am not sure if the error is affecting anything, as all seems to be working properly.

Could you advise?

Thanks

There are a couple of links in the forum, that contain the patches to download. I've contacted Ton to see if we can get these uploaded to the Wiki and get it updated appropriately.
