is it just me or does it mess people up looking at the forecast on their PVR and seeing stars in the middle of a clear day:confused:

if there is any way that support for different day-night images could be added that would be great.

speaking of the images, they could probably use a little softening on the edges, they dont blend very well when put over the background in the weather panel.

thanks

Ted, the "stars" is an icon for "Fair". In the gbpvr\media\WeatherIcons folder, you will find the images used. Replace the ones as you wish. I don't know what a good icon for fair would be though.

stars or a moon are good at night, its when its the middle of the day and I see stars as the weather that its freaky. same for looking at midnight and seeing a sun behind some clouds, and I dont live above the arctic circle:p

I guess my suggestion for this is to use a layered image for the forecast icon. have a sun and a moon image then overlay images for those.

ok this will probably end up being verbose.

so have generic sun and moon images, and decide which one to use by using the sunrise/sunset data gathered from weather.com, sunrise < time < sunset use sun image, else use moon image. could even have images for different phases of the moon (just a thought).

then you take the forecast and determine what overlay image to put over the sun/moon. so clear is nothing, partly cloudy is a few clouds that dont cover the sun/moon, windy would have wind over the sun/moon. then some weather would remove the sun/moon, like cloudy or thunderstorms.

these would be put down in a set order, so if the weather was rainy with wind, you could put the wind under the rain image.

maybe I will muck around the source code, see if I can figure it out

The easiest thing to do is just change the icons. I actually don't use the stock icons in my setup, in part because I didn't like the 'fair' icon either. The only reason the weather plug-in still ships with those icons is because those are the ones that the original weather used and I didn't want to go through the hassle of figuring out if there are any copyright issues in distributing other icons. You can find lots of nice weather icons on the net. One place is http://liquidweather.net/icons.html

so yeah I figured that I could change the icons and I am not asking about that.

I am asking/requesting a change in the code that handles the icons, even just to allow for different file names for day and night icons.

I plan to change the icon handling code at some point to be much more flexible than it is now. In particular I was thinking of allowing it to be expanded via its own xml file to allow new forecast types to be mapped to new icon types. I suppose day/night could be worked into this.
