Just a follow-up, the patch did fix channel scanning for me, as well.

The config.exe did crash while scanning in Module 'psiparser.ax' though. See attached screenshot & logs. If anything else I can provide, let me know.

As I understand it, the cable can be connected directly to this device (bypassing the STB) and then GBPVR can scan for channels?
now thats a tall order explaining quadrature amplitude modulation, I had to take a 8 week course to understand it:p its a transmission technique commonly used for digital datastreams

yes you can use a QAM tuner to bypass a digital box. however, the channel numbers will NOT be the same for digital channels. since they map the digital channels to other channel numbers. and this assumes that your cable company is careless and transmits all of their content unencrypted. which they probably dont. so you wont be guaranteed to get all of your digital channels. the best thing to do is go over to AVSForum and look in the local HDTV reception area, there is probably a thread for your local cable provider, and some people talking about what channels they get unencrypted.

sub sufficiently answered the 3rd question

good luck

Ryan,

How much bandwidth on a USB 2.0 bus does 1 OnAir USB use? would 2 tuners work?

Does the Onair decode closed captions?

TIA
Mark.

mark_t,
Bandwidth usage varies, depending on content. While my own personal tests show that USB 2.0 is able to handle the bandwidth of 2 tuners, I certainly can't guarantee this will be the case for everyone's system. Although I don't have exact numbers, a full ATSC stream has a rate of about 20Mbps.

GB-PVR does not support Closed Captioning for ATSC streams, as far as I know. (sub can clarify if I am wrong.) The OEM program (OnAir HDTV Program) currently has Closed Captioning disabled, but that feature is expected to return in a future version.

Thanks for your questions!

So now I can watch QAM TV but it is very jerky. I've tried: 1) switching codecs; 2) switching rendering mode (9/7/overlay); 3) Changing video cards (this wasn't intentional--my ATI bought the farm); 4) Toggling the "use live preview" option; and other things that I can't remember offhand.

I'm running a AthlonXP 2800+ 1GB machine with a ATI x1600 (and temporarily an NVIDIA 6200) graphics card, and it's too slow. The OnAir software, by contrast, is smooth and only takes 16-23% CPU.

Has anyone gotten smooth video playback from GBPVR using the OnAir? Got any recommendations? I really want to be able to us GBPVR with the OnAir QAM.

Eric89GXL,
Have you tried OTA? (Do you see the same problems there?) I can tell you which settings I have that work for me. (I've only listed settings that seem relevant):

--------------
[Playback] tab
Hardware decoder device: None - use software decoder
Video Decoder: NVIDIA Video Decoder (or 'System Default')
Audio Decoder: NVIDIA Audio Decoder (or 'System Default')
Audio Renderer: System Default
-- (Video Decoder Settings button shows '[x] Hardware accleration' is enabled, 'Smart' De-interlace, 'Best available' De-interlace Mode, and 'Prefer Overlay')
(x) VMR9 Custom Renderer
Volume Control: LocalVolume
Aspect Ratio Control: Standard (4x3) or Widescreen (16x9)
[ ] Use FFDSHOW post-processing if installed

[Capture Sources] tab
My source setup has Recording Source: BDA Recording Plugin (set to 'OnAir USB HDTV-GT (QAM)')

[Processing] tab
Commercial Detection: None
Auto-Convert settings: No Conversion

[Misc] tab
Deinterlacing: Encoder pass-through
BDA Multiplexer: Microsoft DVR-MS
--------------

Thanks,
- Ryan Pertusio

Nope, I use the OnAir for QAM only. I don't have an antenna that's good enough to do ATSC.

A question to Ryan

I asked this question in another thread but figured since you work for AutumnWave, you are the one to ask.

I have been waiting for a long time for QAM support for unencrypted cable using GBPVR and it has finally happened!!! I will probably order one within a week or two; however, I would like to know if the OnAir GT recognizes the "broadcast flag" or just ignores it? I know it is not now being used in the US and that the courts have struck its use down but that could change. Don't think it will influence my decision but am very curious to know.

Bill

Sorry for the repost Sub but did not see Ryans posts until now; hope you don't mind Rolleyes

Bill,
The OnAir HDTV tuners do not recognize the broadcast flag. However, we don't expect that the broadcast flag will ever be re-introduced.
