I'm having a strange problem streaming mp3's through EWA. Certain mp3's will stream to my computer at work while others don't, even though there aren't any obvious differences. I haven't checked to see which files are VBR and which are CBR though. all of my MP3's have the artist - album - track# - track.mp3 naming format, so they can be long filenames. Could that be a problem? Has anyone else had this problem?

info:
GB-PVR 98.13
EWA Build 49
VLC 0.8.5
streaming on port 7648, EWA on port 7647
ports opened on my router and the XP firewall.

Have not heard of any problems with this. Have you tried just opening up VLC on the PC hosting GBPVR and try playing the MP3's that are having difficulty streaming? If it can play it that way it should be able to stream it.

Let me know.

VLC plays the files fine. I just duplicated the problem streaming to my own computer.
I have the log file attached. The first file played correctly, then the next one did not, and the last one did.

Are you clicking on the stream button in the Music Library? Your logs do not show any VLC information.

Look at my logs....when you click on the stream button you should see soemthing like the following.

Are you clicking on Play or download button rather than the Stream button?

The only 2 options I have are play and download. I didn't know there was a stream button. Do I need to change a setting somewhere?

Here is a screenshot:

Ok, found the problem. The path to VLC wasn't correct :o . I pointed it to the right path, and the stream button appeared. Maybe there should be a "VLC not available" button in it's place or some kind of notification? I'm still curious why the play button works with some files and not others though. The download button works on all files.

Thanks.

Now that I've discovered the awesomeness of the streamer, I thought of a useful option. Separate the stream quality by media type. i.e. Video streaming settings and Music streaming settings since you can afford more bandwidth when you aren't streaming video.

I think it is safe to say this is on the evolutionary path of EWA. Big Grin

I added this to the wiki as an enhancement so not to loose track.

It may have something to do with the VBR files.....I did not code the play or the download. The Play option just starts streaming the file across the internet at full size and quality. The download does the same thing only the target is a file rather than an open stream to play.

The Streamer transcodes and truly streams the recording.

i have experienced this, constant bitrate mp3's were ok, VBR kept crapping out.

I put it down to my BB uplink being only a nominal 256K
