Hello good people,

I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I've been using GB-PVR for maybe a year now, and have been very happy with it so far. But I'm beginning to regret upgrading to 0.98.13. Prior to that, I ran 0.96.12 without problems, but now the following issues haunt me:
  • Almost every time I close the GB-PVR interface, I get an error message, see attachment. It effectively crashes upon exit, it seems.
  • Much worse than that, it seems I can no longer use the web interface for much of anything:
    • Opening tabs such as TV Guide or Episode Search in Firefox 1.5.0.8 may take over a full minute. CPU utilization spikes to 100% during this time, and almost completely freezes the PC. As soon as I abort page loading, the usage goes back down to normal.
    • Page loading times in Internet Explorer are only slightly longer than normal.
    • However, whichever browser I use, using the controls on e.g. TV Guide or Episode Search results in a The connection was reset (FF)/ Page cannot be displayed (IE) error message (for example, trying to skip to another timeframe in the Guide, or searching for anything in Episode Search).
    • So, effectively, I am cut off from scheduling anything from the web interface, at least anything beyond the current timeframe.
    • However, going to Config and updating settings there works.
A few system details:
I'm running Windows 2000 Professional 5.00.2195 SP4
.NET 2.0 is installed
My card is Hauppauge WINTV PVR-350
I'm using EWA build 48 and XMLTV

Steps taken:
  • I upgraded from 0.96.12 to 0.98.13 simply by running the installer
  • When I discovered this problem, I tried to reinstall EWA according to the guidelines on the Wiki page - no change
  • I then tried cleaning the web folder completely - no change. Unzipped EWA on top of it again - no change.
  • I then tried uninstalling GB-PVR, deleted the installation dir, reinstalled, and then copied in gbpvr.mdb and config.xml from my backup - no change
  • I then did the Wiki procedure with EWA again - no change
  • I rebooted and tested again - no change
  • Checked the forums here, but found no reports of similar problems
So, I'm nearly at my wits' end here. Can somebody guide a poor, lost soul back to the path of blissful PVR'ing again?

Just so you know where I'm coming from, I work as a support tech, so I'm not completely PC illiterate Wink But even us pros need some help now and again.

Thanks in advance!

I dont personally use the web admin, so I'm not that familiar with it. Since most of this thread relates to web admin, I though it'd be best to move it here.

On the error message you receive at exit, can you reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the gbpvr.exe.log and gbpvr.exe-native.log files?

Actually... what files have you got in your GB-PVR plugins directory? I seem to remember one of the old MyVideos or MyPictures plugins could cause and error like this and need to be remove, so its probably related to this somehow...

Thanks for your quick reply Smile I did contemplate posting to the EWA forum, but because of the main GUI crash, I thought it best to start in the main forum. Couldn't be sure if the issues are related or not. Also, I would be willing to do without EWA, but I think I've tried that already (see Steps taken in original post), and that didn't improve anything. Sad So I'm not sure this problem is related to EWA at all.

If you mean the GBPVR\Plugins dir, it's completely empty. I deleted the whole dir and reinstalled, as indicated in my original post. EWA is the only "plugin" I've used. In the GBPVR\Web\Plugins dir, I have 5 numbered dirs, and they each contain 1 single file: plugin_config.xml

As for the gbpvr.exe.log and gbpvr.exe-native.log files, please see attachment.

There was a few of us that had the issue with GBPVR crashing when when exited. It was due to the Hauppauge drivers we where using. When we reinstalled different drivers GBPVR stopped crashing.

Mine started crashing after I installed the trial version of BeyondTV and it wanted a different version of the Hauppauge drivers. So I installed them and it caused problems with GBPVR.

I have used BeyondTV previously, but it's a good while ago since I uninstalled it, and I haven't fiddled with the drivers before or after that, either.

But thanks for contributing Smile If I get no other advice, I'll try reinstalling the drivers. It's just that I care less about the crashing, and much more about the web interface not working. Sad

If you upadate your drivers I would recommend the 24108 drivers discussed in this thread.

No one has any tips for me as to how to get the web client to work? I seriously doubt that the drivers will fix that problem. Sad

As stated previously, I'll be happy to use the built-in client, EWA is not do-or-die. It should be possible to bring the internal webserver to work.

Anybody?

Looks like you went through all the steps that I can think of.

When you have EWA up and it is taking forever to respond what shows in taskmanger as a resource hog?

Are you using Access or SQLite database for your GBPVR data store?

When you deleted everything and reinstalled did you copy back old config file or database or did you just uninstall and the reinstall fresh....meaining you had to readd your capture cards and EPG settings?

What browser(s) are you using?

Are you running the gbpvrecording service under the local system account or a user account? If under the local system account have you tried changing it to a local user account with Admin rights?

Let me know.
