I was just playing with MEncoder yesterday and was amazed at how fast transcodes happened...

There seems to be so many more options for the command line...

I'm thinking of abandoning ZProcess's use of ffmpeg.exe... Any thoughts?

Just added basic support on my test machine for mencoder instead of ffmpeg

On my Sempron 3100, ffmeg would transcode 1 minute of 640x480 in about 25 secs. With mencoder it's 15 secs. Same quality so far

On my XP2100+ ffmpeg would transcode 1 minute of 640x480 in 1:01. With mencoder it's 25 secs... (Previously, I had to use 352x240 as my resolution if I wanted to watch on MVP)

This tells me right there that Mencoder is the way to go... And I'll be able to add adjustment for colour and saturation too... (but that's down the road)

Currently, the aspect ratio is working, but I haven't got all the manual demensioning working yet... (gonna hit up the deveolpers for help)

Just tweaking things a bit. Soon you'll be able to select either mencoder or ffmpeg for each of the different transcode profiles.

That's OK... the project is changing yet again.. so hang in there to do more testing...

UncleJohn'sBand tried and had trouble, and inadvertantly pointed to a problem I have to fix any way...

I think you're going to love using MEncoder...

And a little teaser to the lurkers: I think I'm gonna get a grip on Colour, Brightness and Saturation on the MVP. Gonna be down the road a bit, but I suspect quite doable...

Colour, Brightness and Saturation control on the MVP?

That'll certainly put ZProcess on any MVP users 'must have utilities list'.

Hopefully the adjustments will be implimented into the MVP OSD and not just in a GBPVR server config screen.

I cannot wait for the color and brightness feature (see my latest post in MVP)... I do not get it - I have the latest MVP revision - H2 - and after so many versions Hauppauge still did not get it right!

It still isn't stopping me from buying another one though...

I also have an H2. For me, the colour is just a bit strong. But I'm aware of the many people who wish they had some sort of control.

Yes, it's a couple or three sliders in the ZProcess Interface. I got it working last night. Pretty slick.

It won't be real time, just like adjusting the aspect ratio and cropping has to be done in increments, so too is the adjustment of the hue and saturation. (Still working on brightness)

Also I'm working on some sort of a test pattern that somone can look at while they move the sliders around, just to give you a feel. But that might wait for a few more versions.

But be warned! the Colour control will be only available through NON MPG videos, (divx-avis's, wmv's etc...) I will have to try something completely different to fix the colour on MPGs...

Zehd,

Currently I only play dvix and xvid. I will add a capture card soon - but I read that the Hauppauge tweak tool for the 150 does wonders to the colors...

I am very excited to see the next release of Z!!! (I will also test routing the signal through my home theater this afternoon using svideo which might solve the issue).

Guy.
