First, GBPVR is awesome. Thanks so much for creating this, and to everyone else who develops and supports it.

I just installed a PVR150 in my wife's PC last night. Everything went great. First I installed all the Hauppauge stuff, just to make sure it worked (WinTV, scheduler, guide, etc)
Then I downloaded the .net framework and GBPVR. Got it all installed (no reboots) and seemed to be working, except the remote. (Forget that I had to click Fix remote. Did that, but haven't tried it again yet).
Setup my MediaMVP out in the living room and everything works. I knew I didn't need any of its software, so the CD stayed in the sleeve.
However, the tray icons for GBPVR and the Hauppauge IR blaster are not in the tray. GBPVR still works, and the MVP still boots and lets me do everything, but the tray icons are gone on the PC. A few of my other icons are gone too. It took a good 5 minutes for my AVG icon to show up, and the 'remove hardware' icon is gone too.
I thought maybe I couldn't have WinTV installed as well as GBPVR, so uninstalled that, but no difference. They did show up after one reboot last night, but not this morning again.
I tried a search and couldn't find anything. It'll be my luck that something similar is right here on the first page though. Smile I thought I remember seeing something about it. It may have been over at BYO though.
Once again, everything still works. Recording, guide, etc. I can open GBPVR from the start menu, and do the same if I need to go into config. Which I did about 20 times messing with MVP screen positioning.

Any ideas?

are you on XP, which hides unused system tray icons? have you tried clicking the arrow to show hidden icons?

and please dont take offense, this is the simplest thing I can think of, usually best place to start troubleshooting

Yes on XP. Hide unused is turned on, but I did click the arrow, and they're not there.
I might try turning it off, just for the heck of it.

Did a little more checking and TSing. I found that the apps are running in Task Manager, but not showing. It's not just the GBPVR icon and the IR icon either. I should have 8 icons in the system tray at boot:
AnyDVD
Local Area Connection
Trillian
Web Capture (for our scanner, though we never use that ap. I should probably get rid of it)
Volume
AVG
WinTV remote
GBPVR

With the last two items in the startup group, usually the only tray icons to load at boot was Trillian and LAN, nothing else. So first I tried putting the last two in their own batch file and running it from a shortcut at boot with a wait command I DL'ed from the internet. Upon reboot, the batch would stop after running the IR program, and would just sit there on the screen. Odd. So then I copied the .lnk files to another folder, and rewrote the batch file to run those. They ran, but I am still having the same problem with the tray icons. I tried forcing it to wait up to 45 seconds, no dice. It looks like if the web capture icon doesn't show up first, nothing else will either.
For now I took the batch file out of the startup group, and simply run it sometime after the system is up. I'll have to tell my wife to do it this way if she wants to be able to access GB from the tray or use the remote.

It doesnt sound like a GB-PVR problem, but rather something screwy going on on your system.

The GBPVRTray.exe utility is very simple. I cant think of any reason the tray icon would not be appearing.

yup, it's a known xp bug - try working through the tips here http://www.tech-pro.net/howto_013.html (just google missing tray icons, there's thousands of pages...Smile)

I had this problem a while back - it's something to do with too many processes being launched at start up - the options that worked best for me are either disabling auto logon (so xp effectively boots in two stages, giving it more time to sort it's life out) or use startup control panel - http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml -
to identify and thin out / turn off needless startup processes.

It probably is, since taking those two out doesn't seem to make a difference. And IR isn't even yours.

Thanks fuzzweed, I'll check those out.
