The advantage to MSDE is in performance. I have tried SQLite and have found that the record seek times are greatly better in MSDE - Time to display recording lists and guides. Besides, I am familiar with it and can manipulate the data for other purposes. I guess my reluctance to adopt SQLite is out of ignorance.

Is there a tool for SQLite that works like the enterprise manager? If so, I would be very willing to migrate Smile

Thanks,

Matt

A popular tool is SQLiteSpy. I personally prefer SQLite Database Browser. See the threads "Can you Browse the SQLite DataBase" and "v0.98.8 survival guide".

I can't see any reference to a MORSE function in Informix, although you could easily write a server-side UDR in C or Java to accomplish this for you.....:-)

Oops! :o This is a case of relying too much on a Google search and not reading the fine print. I searched for "informix sql string function" and the first item returned had "SQL, database, Informix" in the title. Had I read this page a bit more carefully I would have seen that I was looking at a set of functions ported to TSQL, some of which were based on Informix functions.

Sorry to spread misinformation. I last used Informix in the late 80's and my main memory of using it was that it offered some very specialized capabilities but made some basic functionality quite hard to use. So I was easily fooled by material that seemed to confirm my prejudice. I believe there might be a moral to this story. Wink

np Ubu, only it's my job to make sure people have the correct facts about Informix, which is very much alive and kicking!

If anyone (Sub?) is interested in a free alternative db to what MS offer, take a look at Cloudscape which IBM have released to the open source community under the Apache Derby project.

It's is small footprint (2MB), zero admin, pure java, multi-user rdbms.

I may have inadvertantly revealed some brand loyalty here...

I love the description of Informix IDS as "a cult favourite". Conjures up images of y'all meeting in secret to sit cross legged while intoning obscure SQL constructs.Smile

tipstir Wrote:Ubu,

I think I've solved the the mystery. Looks like a lot of stuff from zap2it info doesn't get applied to certain programs or shows. I don't think it's your program is more like what I get from zap2it. Otherwise it works.
The Zap2it data reflects what is available from the content providers. Absence of some attributes means that the information is not available for that program. I also have a TiVo (which gets its EPG data from a different source) and the EPG data is usually identical to what you get from Zap2it. Major shows on major networks usually have pretty complete info. The worst offenders are locally produced PBS programs which often have no info at all (so you end up recording multiple instances of the same show).

Looks like EPGExtra is working just fine for you, though.

Hi Forum,

I have tried to download the EPGEXTRA utility from the WIKI and it keeps timing out. Can someone check and see if it is still available?

Thanks,

This question would be better posted in a more general support thread. This thread is really for EPGExtra support issues. It does seem the wiki has been having some problems for the last few days. You should take a look at these threads:

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=20374

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=20306

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=20264

The forum search feature can be quite helpful. Often you'll find the answer to your question before you've even asked it. Wink

After looking at I-xmltv and epgextra, I found I like the simplicity of ee in it's setup. It only left me wishing for one small tweak.

In reading the threads, I think I saw something like this be asked before, but what the heck, may as well ask in case it matters.

The air date is added to the description with only the year. I picked a bad example, since the year 1995 says a lot, but for something more recent, especially as it comes to the end of the year... it would be nice to see the full date here.

[(2006) could be new.. or could be (2006-02-01)]

Quote:Episode:
The Switch - this episode
Description:
(1995) Kramer's mom (Sheree North) reveals her son's name to George; guest Terry Sweeney.

zap2it.xml - Date is a full date, the description appears to have taken just the year
