audio hickups suddenly started, both on recordings and videos..cant fix..need help!

Hi All

i have a really annoying problem which i really need help with. I keep having these audio "hickups" that is the video plays on but i have short silences every few seconds. it happens both on recordings and videos (that is mpeg's and avi's) and it happens also in other players (VLC etc..) so i dont think it has to do with GBPVR. I have tried everything from installing new codecs, installing new Audio drivers, defrag, Turning off system Index etc..but with no success. Can anyone recommend any other options i can try? It only started hapening the last day or so thats whats really annoying me, i didnt change anything...

Did you check your audio settings, to see if a setting changed, e.g. from stereo to 5.1 or whatever. Maybe change your audio-renderer from default to something else.:confused: Could ofcourse be a hardware thing. What about a audio-cd in the computer, just to see what happens.

Still no solution but some info.So after testing every possible option ALL morning (5 hours!) i know now this:

1)it happens on all applications (not a GB-PVR thing)
2)its not just the SPDIF it happens on line out as well
3)i changed drivers (the Kx project) and it still happens
4)it does not happen on the On-board sound card

So...is this 100% a hardware problem?its strange why it suddenly started acting weird. i did add another PVR-150 last friday could that cause any conflicts? the card not working is a Creative Audigy but my on-board sound card does not support SPDIF out...so i want to make sure its a hardware thing before i buy a new one. Is there anything more someone thinks i should test?

You could try to re-install the card, see if that helps.

Have you run directx setup lately?

I'm having trouble since running dxsetup. I had a game install the kept saying I need dx9 installed, which I do - 9c - and patched current. Thinking maybe I had one file screwed up or something, I downloaded dxsetup from MS and ran it. It went through tons of stuff and completed, but of course the install still didn't work. (Later found it was a documented install bug).

Afterwards my .ts playback was totally screwed up and I discovered the graph gbpvr is creating is hosed. Multiple demultiplexers and all kinds of other crap, playback stutters no matter what I play in. When set to system default MPG playback is screwed up too, though MPG playback is better if I explicitly select my video and audio decoder. I'm at a loss now on how to fix everything. I'm considering a total wipe and re-install of the OS.

Some ppl have reported problem that are related to PCI bus latency and you can find a long thread about this on Creatives site. There have been speculation that nf4 chipset are to blame, since also other chipset seem to have this kind of problem there.

Link to Creatives forum on sound problem. You can search this site for more threads on this issues as it is one of the most common problem on Creatives site (which only mean that it well known, not that it is related to Creative or Nvidia by itself).

You have to know that all on board devices on motherboard are connected through PCI to chipset and not only what you add-on through PCI ports, so this bus can be a very buzzy bus if you use many harddrives, tuner, extra Gigabyte NIC and hardware controller all that will have to communicate via PCI.

Use Everest Home Editon which is free, but not the very latest version to find out your hardware. (Lavalys suspended its free version for some time ago, but is still very good to find basic information about hardware and drivers.) You can verify that you have the essential info from CPU-Z if you have a very new chipset that Everest Home Edition doesn't know about.

I would at least have to know what chipset/CPU/sound card (SB Audigy is wide definition - use Creatives site to look up right version of Audigy) you use and what driver that you have installed to even give you a hint on where to start looking.

Thx for the comprehensive response! To update on the situation: after reading your remarks i decided to try switching between the PCI cards. at first i tried just switching position between the creative card and one of the pvr-150 cards but that solved nothing, still lots of stuttering. Then i moved all the PCI cards down one slot , leaving the PCI slot (where the original sound card and later the 150 card was in) empty. Maybe it was the late hour ..but i think the stuttering almost stoped...i say almost because a ocasional audio stutter still happened here and there. I will do some more test later today after work to see if that helped!

If you have graphedt installed, you may learn something by opening lastgraph.grf found in the gbpvr directory. This shows you the directshow filters gbpvr is using and might point you in the direction of some configuration problems.
