I just got a new Motorola Razr V3m cell phone w/ an unlimited data plan..the great screen and unlimited data plan got me wondering..

Has anybody had success in watching GBPVR recordings on their phone ?

I'm able to get the EWA page, login, and choose a recording to stream but I get a message indicating the cell phone's browser can't handle the stream.

Sprint has the NFL Mobile package which this phone uses and plays well so it certainly seems feasible...

This'd be great for those long rides in the car ..stream some live NFL games on a Sunday afternoon perhaps ?

You get farther than me. I have a Cingular 8528 and I can get to the login page, but clicking on the login button doesn't do anything. I have, however, been able to stream via Orb. It does not work very. Maybe the GBPVR version is better.

I've had very good success streaming to my phone (Sprint A900 aka "Blade") with Orb. I found it easy to install and it worked great for the little that I used it. Personally video on a phone isn't very appealing with the small screen and all, but orb seemed to be ticket.

OK great...I played around w/ Orb a little a while back but I'll give it another try. 2 questions about it :

1) What is it that Orb does technically that makes this work that GBPVR can't do ?

2) Could Orb be made to stream Live TV or will it only work with complete pre-recorded content ?

Orb has logic that determines the streaming bandwidth and video abilities of the client, and transcodes on the fly based on this. It's quite slick. GBPVR's Enhanced Web Admin has settings for streaming and auto-transcoding (I believe), but it doesn't automatically determine the clients capabilities or bandwidth.

Yes, Orb will steam live TV. It operates independently of GBPVR though, so if it's using your TV card, GBPVR will find it busy should it need to record a program. The two can operate on the same server together, but when one puts a device in use, the other obviously can't use it.
