Non-stop hard drive activity

I have GBPVR setup on a windows 2003 server with 768mb ram and 300gb of hard drive space.
I am running gbpvr as a MVP front end only.
i have another setup running on another machine for pvr stuff
but gbpvr offers such a great front end for mvp, that i decided to use it.
my problem is my hard drive light never stops being lit up.
if i kill the gbpvr service that is running, the light goes out and stays out.. if i reboot, and let the service auto start. the light comes on and never goes out.
as a test, i let it run on all weekend. and every time i checked on it, it was still running.

i'm running the latest release of gvpvr, the weather plugin and the net radio plug in as well as a few of the defaults..
but i have no tv encoder card, as this is only a mvp front end.
the hauppauge mvp software is also installed on this machine.

anyone have any idea on why my hard drive never stops, what it's doing? and how do i fix it?

If you playing video or audio then I would expect the hard disk to be access nearly continuously...

Does it do disk activity when its just sitting at the menu? If so, the only thing I can think of is it writes a one line message to the logs every few seconds. You'll be able to stop the logging in the next release.

this happens if the mvp unit is powered on or off.. if i throw the mvp out the window it still does it.

yeah if it was playing a movie or something, i'd understand, but it's not even turned on and hard drives are going nutz. if it kill the service it stops immediatly.

i see several log files and none of them looked very big.. so i dont know if it's that.. is there a specific log file that i could check? i can look at the time stamps to see if this is my problem

I have seen that sometimes after rebooting my computer, the Recording Service is taking a lot of time, though it isn't recording. Stopping and then restarting the recording service has fixed it.

I should mention I'm using the WinTV PVR-USB2 and Win XP SP2.

i tried stopping the service.. my hd light stopped flashing..
i restarted it.. it started flashing again and hasnt stopped since.

i checked the logs and they where only 9k and not increasing.. i checked on and off for 1 hour and they didnt increase...

any word when a new version will be released?

I can't get my PC to go into standby whenever the GB-PVR recording service is running, unless I set a very short idle time of 5 minutes.

Using filemon, I see the GB-PVR recording service accessing gbpvr.ldb every 10 minutes. That explains why my PC never shuts down unless the idle timeout is set to less than 10 minutes. I also see regular accesses to direct.ini from the GB-PVR tray program.

Is there a way to put these files into a ramdisk or USB flash disk ? I really want my hard disk to spin down unless I am viewing or recording programs.

PS: I am also having problems registering on this forum.

Before ver .238 I could go into stanby mode, but after I can´t anymore even if I set it to 1 minute. Without GBPVR running it works fine. Could it be related to the new panel printing out upcoming recordings??

Probably. If its a problem for you, then disable the panels.

I removed the panels (in main menu skin.xml) and still no standby. I would like my computer be able to go into standby after 10 min and it seems like I could before .238.
