Hi,
Just wondering if someone can answer some questions I have about satelite receiver cards.

If I was to buy one and plug my sky dish in it and point it the right direction, could I pick up channels from various satelites for free? or do I need a patch to do this and a specific dish?

Also what card would be best to buy, for vaule, quality, and able to run on GBPVR.

Thanks for any advice

PS I`m in the UK

Let me preface this by saying I am not poking fun at you, but I am reminded of the people here in the US that started stealing dishes years ago to try to attach their antenna wires and get satellite reception. Doesn't work.
Neither does attempting to hack the DirecTV cards (unless you are part of the elite underground) "Dave" (DirecTV) would have my friends shut down for a few hours back in the day of the original H and HU style cards, but they would have a hack for their hash in a couple hours on average. The site that you could go to was DSSNation. The last time I went there it was gutted and functionless. "Dave" came up with the P4 and P5 cards and that was pretty much it, along with the rash of arrests of people that had ordered hack equipment (bootstrappers, reader/programers, etc.) and the companies (onshore and Canada) had foolishly kept their financial info making them easy to find. The Bahamas sites stayed up longer. There ARE people that can do this, but lots of luck finding them! I think the lawsuits by Dave averaged $16K USD for each person they found. It was fun while it last though...

There are probably quite a few free to air channels available on the satellites above europe, but I'm on the other side of the world so couldnt tell you what they are.

Hi Pete,

There are a few satellites over europe that are accessible and have a number of free channels.....They are identified by their name and postion. Astra2 at 28' East is where all the s_y dishes point. It carries BBC and ITV channels which are free-to-air, but for channel 4 and 5 you need a S_y receiver. The other 2 satellites commonly watched and Astra1 at 19.2E and Hotbird at 13E. Astra1 has loads of German channels that a free to receive. I've used GBPVR for about 18 months and played with satellite for years, but I am just about to put a satellite card in GBPVR - made by Twinhan, which should recieve both Astra1 and Hotbird, so watch this space....Are you looking for anything in any particular language or just want to explore? Look at http://www.flysat.com to see what is available on which satellites.

Hi Pete,
Its just a general question really, just wondering if a Sky dish would do the job and if so I might have a go, but if I only receive channels I already get through Freeview, the German channels want probably be any good cause I can`t speak German, I might just leave it alone, I`ve herd a few people say they can get free SKY TV, football channels etc, would this be through a different programme that would unscramble the encription.

Let me know how you get on with yours

Thanks for all the replys
