I've checked this against the filtercheck.log you've provided. It seems to be normal for this device, which doesnt have an audio decode output on the capture filter. It most likely carries both audio and video on the 'capture' pin.

Sorry, I know this doesnt really get us any close to understand why you have missing audio in live tv, but it at least tells us this pin error was not the cause.

I still think it is something to do with LPCM. I have seen various posts on forums for this card talking about LPCM. What I cant understand is why it works when you record or when you use Timeshifting. Maybe a way to start TV in a timeshift mode would fix the problem. Not really sure what else to try. I know it works fine with the Intervideo PVR software that came with it, but it is rubbish... Is there any way we can tell what that is doing.. I have tried to use graphedit to view what is happening with the Intervideo software, but it wont connect to the remote graph (not really sure what I am doing to be honest)

Yeah, me too. Unfortunately I dont have any cards that do this, so not something I can test here.

You can already do this by disabling live preview mode in the config app (misc tab).

Its not possible to view an apps graph unless it explicitly allows it, which I'm sure Intervideo wouldnt.

Thanks for the tip about timeshifting. That appears to work. So I am going to play with it for a bit longer and see how I get on.

What do you recommend as the best codecs

I dont really have any recommendations for you on this, but if you do a forum search there is a lot of discussion on this.
