I am having trouble with GBPVR locking up whenever it starts a recording. This locks up the entire computer and requires a manual restart. This is really annoying. I was able to get 4 shows recorded on Suday or Monday. these were hour long shows with high settings and 3 min padding. So I have been trying to leave the interface up in Full Screen and windowed mode with the screensaver on and it still locks up in both instances. I think that it has something to do with comskip but I am not for sure. Most of My shows record back to back but I assume GBPVR knows not to try to pad if there is another show coming on. Last night it recorded a few shows that showed up as ready in the recordings section but when you selected them and pressed play they locked up the computer. These files were completed shows with comskipfiles and they were not 0 size files. Another recording was going on when I attempted to view a completed recording and it locked.
So for my current test I have reduced padding to 0 and started running comskip during the recording. Also the GBPVR interface is not running just the recording service. SO I will see if it locks it up this time. Does anyone think that showanalyzer is a better option? I think that if it still locks up I am going to uninstall all wintv IR and GBPVR programs and start over, I have read here that I dont need to install the IR.exe for the haupauge remote I have the 45 button. I just need to run the Fix? and then in MISC tab set it to direct control by haupauge remote? Is this correct? i think that I will also add more ram at this time if I take the machine down. I defraged last night just for the heck of it. Thanks for reading and thanks for any insight into my problems. I am a noob so just trying to get it to work.

Here are some logs from two different lockups these logs were taken after the restart if that matters.

System(Dedicated PVR)
1.6a pentium

120GB
PVR 150 With the very latest drivers
Nvidia TI500 graphcard.

you're trying to many things at once. try to make it easier:

- move the comskip files from a particular recording & try playback of that recording.
- if it's still locking up: do you have other plugins? remove them all & try playback again.
- check if it's the recording (unlikely) or just during playback.

there was nothing obvious in the logs, maybe sub can find something

If the computer locks up entirely, then it'll be some driver problem, or hardware instability (ram, power supply etc).

There isnt anything in the GB-PVR logs that would help identify this sort of thing.

well I ran my little test with the above and not having the GUI open on screen so just the recording services was running and I went into the TVguides selected an hour long program and told it to record. It recorded just fine with commercial skips and all and it will start up from within the gui. So the gui seems to be the problem I am going to record same channel and all only with the gui open and screen saver on. and See if it locks up.

Thanks for looking guys this is great forum.

Okay so I recorded my second show with the gui up in fullscreen mode it made a successful recording. I am now going to record two back to back shows on the same channel on high quality, with the gui up in place. if this works then there is something flawed in the padding or comskip running afterwards is choking.

Well with my last test the machine did lockup. I am firmly in belief that it is comskip that is causing the problem. I took comskip out of the GBPVR directory and two shows recorded back to back without padding on high ,perfectly. Which is a shame I love comskip. Which comskip does run correctly on recordings made where they have nothing following them. Commercials are found and all I thought that I saw a way to have comskip run on your shows via a batch file or something does anyone have a tut for that then I could have it set to run at 3am or something and life will be good. Or maybe I should try showanalyzer. Anyone have other ideas?

I registered over there but i havent put a thread down yet. I have the latest version of comskip I am pretty sure I cant believe that noone else is having this problem. I think that i am just going to write my own program to run comskip after hours. I dont see any other programs that do that I looked at DIRMON2 but I dont see where you can set the timer for it to run.

you can still run comskip from postprocessing.bat if you want to ;-)

take a look at the wiki here, just remove the REM before comskip

I just almost the same problem. I had 2 programs to record back to back. The first program started and aborted but GB-PVR said it was still recording. Although the program knew the correct time the first program locked and the second never started. 3 small files of less than a minute each showed up in my HD. I had to go stop all recordings manually in processes in Windows Task Manager.
