I lowered the number of days to 7 and still no joy! Here is the segment of the logs for today. I've also displayed the lines out of WindowsUpdate.log that show when the command to go back to sleep was issued and when I re-woke the machine manually.

Any more ideas?

Here is a line from WindowsUpdate.log that shows the time it went back to sleep. It looks lit 1 minute and 48 seconds after GBPVR was Initiating EPG update... Windows went back to sleep. The 53 minutes and 3 seconds later I woke the machine manually.

I've been uisng 45 minutes then go-to-sleep. Isn't that enough time?

I guess that should be, how long does the updfate take normally?
At what time did the system wake up for the epg-dl? Who or what gave the hibernation command?

About 15 minutes.

Quote:At what time did the system wake up for the epg-dl?

0458 for a 0500 EPG update.

Quote:Who or what gave the hibernation command?

I don't know who/what is giving the hibernation command. I'm confused, too.

Another observation, in the WindowsUpdate.log file there are a bunch of entries regarding Windows Update -- checking for needed updates, etc. These are all happening when the machine comes out of standby (i.e. starting at 0458). I'm guessing here, but could the Windows Update process be giving the hibernation command after it is finished doing its checks, etc.? Is that the way Windows Update works? Is it taking advantage of the fact that GBPVR is waking the machine for an EPG update and hijacking the system to check for updates and then putting it back into standby when it is finished? How can I find out what is giving the hibernation command?

I'll try turning Windows Automatic Updates off and see if anything changes.

GB-PVR never tells a machine to hibernate or to standby - it'll only ever tell the machine to wake at certain times. During the EPG update it tries to tell the machine to stay awake at various stages, including just before the request is sent to zap2it, and just after the response is received - but this must eventually "wear off" somewhere between those two points, and whatever auto-hibernate stuff you've got configured must kick in.

I use xmltv to get my EPG and use Windows scheduler to get it (and import to gbpvr later on). I have it set to grab it at 02:55 and 02:57. The first is to wake the machine up out of hibernate and the network is working fine for pinging something by ip number, but DNS requests fail. The second grab works fine.

I've not spent a lot of time trying to find where the problem lies as yet.

Martin

I am doing similar to this with grab xmlt with dial-up connection and use the postupdateEPG and GBPVR wakeup to automate the process.

Okay, I think the EPG updated this time (with Windows Automatic Update turned (WAU) off). Here is a snip-it of the logs. Sub, can you confirm that the logs indicate a successful EPG update? I don't see an explicit statement saying so in the log:

If this is in fact a successful update, then I conclude that Windows Automatic Update is prohibiting the EPG update process from completing by putting the machine into standby before the EPG update is finished.

Can anything be done about that or should I just keep WAU turned off?

Personally, I think WAU should be off. I only ever want to manually verify anything I install on my PVR machine...

In any case, I've been having this issue for who knows how long, and never ever have WAU on, on any of my machines, so I beg to differ on your finding.

Yeah, I cant quite see how he is tying WAU into this one either.

I've now got this better logging in the EPG updates though, so if you want to post your logs GG, then I'll take a look at yours too.

I have WAU set to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them." I, like you, want to verify anything I install on my PVR machine. I also like to know when updates are avaialble, hence my setting.
