Each week I download soaps from the UK which are MPEGs, but due to differences between PAL/NTSC I have to manually transcode them to 720x480 using TMPENG; otherwise they only display in the top half of the screen. It's a bit of a pain. In the same way that gbpvr 'sees' an .avi file and invokes ffmpeg to transcode it to play on the mvp, is there anyway it could do this for user-specified files (ie, these mpegs)? Or add another transcode option to run in the middle of the night? Thanks in advance.

It might be a bit overkill, but you can set <MvpTranscodeAllVideo>true</MvpTranscodeAllVideo> in config.xml.

Alternatively you can probably manually initiate a transcode in the Video Library, then start playing the MPEG file as it transcode. You might need to add an additional conversion profile to <CustomFFmpegConversions> in config.xml to support this.

Thanks Sub. I'll try that later.

Just to close this out, that worked fine. A delay at the beginning to start the transcoding but nothing major; it runs pretty quick as it is just resizing.

It would be nice to have the option to just transcode where needed (even though they are MPEGs, would changing the extension to .avi fool it into running? Hmmm.. might try that..) but WAF is good - thanks sub!

Didn't try this bit though, which is probably closer to what I've just described. Doh!

Sorry to resurrect this, but I can't figure out how to define a conversion profile to do this. I've tried messing with existing ones to no avail - can anyone help me with this?

Thanks in advance.

I'd add a line like this to the <customffmpegconversions> in config.xml

Code:
<Conversion name="MPG-MVP" cmd="-y -i {SOURCE_FILE} -target ntsc-dvd -b 4500k -s 720x480 -acodec mp2 -ab 224 -ac 2 -mbd 2 -qmin 2 -async 1 {DEST_FILE}" targetExtension="mvp.mpg" />

This should work.

Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.
