So I want to upgrade my htpc to Vista. I bought a new hard drive, and have Vista installed on it (and NOTHING else yet). Because it is running my OS, I CAN'T change it from being the C drive.
I have my old 2 drives that are full of recordings (as well as XP and GBPVR). So I can still bootup in XP and get complete access to everything as if Vista doesn't exist.

I want to start using gb in Vista, but want to make sure that my recordings and their info does not disappear from GB... I've tried to search around the forums to find the answer on how to do this, and VideoArchive is the only thing that looks like it might help, but I'm not sure...

Any suggestions?

5 Hard-drives, total 1.8 TB
GB running on my PC, as well as two wired MVPs.

A GB-PVR install isnt intended to be used from two different OS installs, so I think you want to make sure you only use it from one or the other install.

For using GB-PVR on Vista, I recommend a clean install of GB-PVR, since it needs to do a few special things to get it setup for running on vista.

You can use the import/export recordings buttons in the config app (and resulting recordings-dump.xml file) to keep a backup of your 'ready' recording. If the path has changed with this new install, then you may need to edit the file to reflect the new path.

Sub,
I was planning to do a clean install in vista, and eventually delete the old GB files on my XP drive.

I'm not at my computer right now, but is changing the path to point to a different drive letter pretty straight forward?

Do I need to copy the database file as well, or will doing the recordings import/export take care of that for me?

THanks Sub!

That'll take card of inserting your existing 'ready' recordings. You'd need to create your capture sources, and reschedule any season or pending recordings.

If you're sticking with the same version of GB-PVR, and the path to the recordings will be the same, then you can just restore the gbpvr.db3 database into the new installation. This has the advantage of leaving your season/pending recordings in place, as well as your capture sources etc.
