I didn't want to hi-jack the showburner thread so thought I should start a new topic. It seems gbpvr isn't recording things in fully dvd compliant mpg format. Showburner is unable to mark the comskip commercial points as chapters and if I fast forward faster then 2x or rewind, it takes me back to the menu.

pBS suggested I try re compressing the mpegs with the following FFmpeg Conversion,
Code:
<Conversion name="Make DVD ready"  cmd=" -y -i {SOURCE_FILE} -sc_threshold 1000000000  -flags +cgop+ildct -target ntsc-dvd -f dvd -b 3000k -vcodec mpeg2video -acodec mp2 -ab 128 {DEST_FILE}" targetExtension=".new.mpg" />
Doing this corrects the problem but I don't want to have to do it for every recording I want to burn.

How do I make gbpvr record to an mpg with dvd ready parameters? Do I just have it mis configured or is it possible this a bug between gbpvr & my tuner card... its a MSI ATI Theater 550 Pro.

One other thing maybe worth mentioning... as a test I recorded 10 minutes of tv with the bundled app that came with the tuner, Powercinema 5. I then ran comskip on that mpeg & burned it with showburner. It worked properly.

Can someone help, if you need more info let me know. ThanksSmile

I dont know if the ATI 550 cards make any promises about producing a DVD compliant stream or not. GB-PVR doesnt do anything to the MPEG2 stream it produces - it just writes every byte data from the card to disk with no modification at all.

The Hauppauge cards on the other hand do produce a DVD compliant stream.

maybe it's output type?
i don't know as i don't have one, but does that setting in direct.ini affect the 550pro?

on haupp. pvr cards, it is what determines the dvd output type...maybe different for ati 550?

The output type only affects Hauppauge cards. I'm not aware of any equivalent for the ATI 550 cards.

But the recordings done in Powercinema are dvd ready. Doesn't that mean the stream is compliant or do I misunderstand? Are you sure theres no settings I can tweak or something else to try? I'm open to suggestions...

There may be some ATI registry settings or something, but I'm not aware of them. There is no GB-PVR settings that would change this. GB-PVR just records the default stream type produced by the card and it's drivers.
