For those of you that have purchased the HD2X00 AGP cards,
Bellow is a couple of fix's that should allow you to install the latest drivers and use Direct Draw.
Fix for the "Unable to find compatable hardware/device" while installing drivers for ATI HD2x00 series of AGP Cards
If you have the "Unable to find compatable hardware" error, while trying to install the latest Catalysts Control Center from ATI then do the following
If you allready havent done so, download the latest CCC from ATI, Click on install and continue until you get the "no compatable device/hardware" error.
open the file c:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-10_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_52443\Driver\Driver\XP_INF\CX_52443.inf
Under [ATI.Mfg.Ntx86] add the following lines
"ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO AGP" = ati2mtag_RV610, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_94C4
"ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro AGP" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9587
"ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT AGP" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9586
Open file open the file c:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-10_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_52443\Driver\Driver\CX_?????.INI
and c:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-9_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_52443\Driver\Driver\INSTALL.INI
Both these files need this line:
R6=DriverPath_R6,0x9587,0x94C6,0x94C4,0x9586
I just replaced the R6 line in the 7.10 version
Now run the setup file from the C:\ATi\Support7-10_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_52443\ directory - you should now be able to install the drivers
Fix for Direct Draw error within DXDIAG.
Within the DirectX9c DXDIAG application, whilst running the "Test Direct Draw" function the following error appears "Generic Failure at step 8". Apply the following fix;
1. Install your last known working Catalyst drivers pre 7.10, for me these are 7.7
2. Go to "C:\windows\system32" and copy "ati3duag.dll" to your desktop.
3. Uninstall your drivers, use Driver Cleaner to remove any remnants of the drivers, and reboot.
4. Install Catalyst drivers 7.10, possibly using the fix listed above, and reboot into safe mode.
5. Using the pre 7.10 file "ati3duag.dll" from the desktop. OVERWRITE the "ati3duag.dll" file from 7.10 in the C:\Windows\system32 folder.
6. Reboot, and test it out with Dxdiag.
