Let's start with the apology. I'm sure this has been addressed but I can't seem to find it (but I can find lots of things similar).

In earlier (pre-99.5 maybe earlier) the aspect ratio (on my system) seemed to correctly id and adjust, so TV, letterbox, etc all looked fine, with no need for me to F7. Which was good, as the movie/TV viewing occurs downstairs and the computer is upstairs, so I am running upstairs and hitting F7 as the wife yells back up ("they are all tall and skinny" or "short and fat"). I've tried to leave it on "auto" but no joy. I was hoping that 99.12 would take care of the problem, but same behaviour.

I am using overlay manager.

Any suggestions? Can I provide more (or at least some) information to figure out what is amiss?

Thanks.

Its a complex area with a lot of rules, so I'll need a more concrete example to work through.

Play one specific file that causes a problem, then post the logs. What type of file was avi/mpg etc, and what resolution was that file?

So, I put it in "auto" using F7. Exit GBPVR. Restarted (did all this, as I didn't have it in "auto" previously).

The two videos that I looked at were a tv recording, in medium, mpg.

I then brought up a ripped DVD.

They both came up full screen. On my system the tv recording should be pillerbox, and the DVD should be letterbox.

Thanks.

Starting with the ripped DVD, GB-PVR doesnt attempt to do any automatic aspect ratio control on DVDs. It never has in any past version either. For DVD's you'd need to do the F7 thing. It does attempt to do auto aspect ratio control on MPEG, AVI files etc.

For the MPEG files you tried to play, what resolution were they, and what aspect ratio? Also can you post you config.xml?

I've now added auto aspect ratio control for DVDs for the next release.

config.xml attached. As far as mpg resolution, 720 x 480, 4:3 aspect ratio, as recorded from GBPVR.

Thanks for your attention and help, appreciated.

One thing that I think is having an impact here, is that the automatic aspect ratio control only works when you explicitly select a video decoder. When you rely on 'system default' then it can find the correct component to query the aspect ratio.

Try explicitly selecting a video decoder.

From the config program, it doesn't look like I am using the system default, but using InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder fo(and the rest is cut off). I had been using the system default until recently, but there was an issue with the video openning in a separate window (from what I saw in the forums, it may have been due to a codex being downloaded?).

Should I be changing the hardware decoder device, not the video decoder?

Thanks, I am quite impressed with all the help I've been getting. I would have long ago told me to !@#$!@ off and figure it out myself, but then again, your nicer than I. I do appreciate it.
