Hi,

I am new to gb-pvr, so does the TV module support closed caption? If so, how to enable and disable it?

Thx

It can be configured to show these, but you have to change a setting to enable/disable it.

You need to enable it in the Config app on the Misc tab, and you need to be using VMR7/9 and the Intervideo decoder.

Note that if you're using at least a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 350 card that the current drivers don't support CC. Other Happauge cards might, though...
- WinXP Pro, 2 GB RAM, 200 GB HDD, Core2Duo 2.4 GHz, nVidia GeForce 8800GTS, Hauppauge Win-TV PVR 350.

Hi,

I enabled the "Show Closed Caption" in the Misc tab and then I choose the "InterVideo Video Decoder" for the Video Decoder in the "Software Mpeg-2 Playback" section and VMR9 in the "Playback" tab. Click OK and run GB-PVR again, but it seems that the closed caption still does not work when I watch LiveTV.
I am using a hauppauge PVR150 card, does anyone know how can I fix this problem?

Thx

I'm not a 100% sure that the PVR150 captures closed caption information. This card is new, so I've not see too much information on it. This feature has definitely been used by some PVR250 owners in the past.

We have no closed caption information transmitted with our broadcasts here in New Zealand, so I cant test it myself with my PVR150.

Also try the 'InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder for Hauppauge' decoder if its available on your machine.

Keep in mind that you have to add a registry key and reboot before the card will record captions. To make it even more confusing, the location of this key depends on which driver version you are using.

For older driver versions:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Globespan\Parameters\ivac15\Driver]
"InsertCCInDvd"=dword:00000001

For newer driver versions:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\MEDIA\0nnn\Driver]
(where nnn will depend on the system and card)
"InsertCCInDvd"=dword:00000001

or

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e96c-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0nnn\Driver]
(where nnn will depend on the system and card)
"InsertCCInDvd"=dword:00000001

After you have the registry key in place, you will run into another problem: with with older drivers, the output stream type has to be set to 14 in order for cations to work, but with newer drivers it needs to be set to 10. Unfortunately GB-PVR always sets this to 14 when you enable captions and I don't think there's any way to change this. [Image: sad.gif]

I have a PVR-350 with newer drivers, and by using a different recording program (WinTVCap) I can successfully record a show with captions when I set the output stream type to 10. Using the other stream types like 0 or 14 it just won't work.

You can use a program like MPG2SRT to see if the captions are actually being recorded. If they are, then you might have a playback problem and not a recording problem.

You can change it in direct.ini. Search in the file for "OutputType=14"

Hi,

I have followed the instruction on changing the registry and the outputtype to 10, but I still have no success so far.

I have searched through the internet, it seems that the place to place the InsertCCInDVD need to be in the same place as the value "EnableVIMProtection", but I cannot find this value anywhere in the registry.

I have also use the MPG2SRT tool but it seems that there is no cc information stored in the record mpg file.

So did anyone successful in making cc works for PVR-150? Or should I just go and get a PVR-250 instead then?

Thx

just got a hauppauge pvr-250 and installed gbpvr. latest hauppauge drivers as of last week. have put in the registry fixes for closed captioning (InsertCCinDVD and output type). FWIW with winTV2k the CC will work but only after winTV2k is started the second time after a reboot. seems like some kind of initialization issue...

i thought gbpvr might solve that problem, since it bypasses winTV2k, but it didn't. I.e. the first recording after a reboot won't have CC. Subsequent ones might (not sure of exact correlation). I have CC turned on in the config menu, and selected intervideo and VMR9. once i saw CC come up during livetv or playback, but the last few times i tried, it didn't show even when the mpg did have CC embedded (determined by using mpg2srt). (BTW is there any way to toggle the cc display during gbpvr playback?)

i tried the previous suggestion to change direct.ini::OutputType=10 and restarted gbpvr, but that didn't help.

does anyone out there have cc working on a pvr-250???

thanks

I just tried all of the above fixes today with my PVR-500, and no way to make it work, neither in WinTV nor MPG2SRT or GBPVR. CC Doesn't seem supported with this card.
I'll try again tomorrow with my PVR-250. I can't have the 2 cards at the same time in the PC, for some reason the reception becomes covered with static when I have the 2 cards hooked up...
