Server/Client Problems

Hi Sub and anyone else...

I am currently at work so I cannot attach the log files, but can goof off some

I followed the setup instruction provided on these forums, and opened up the ports required. My setup consists of a server (also is used to watch Live TV downstairs). This computer is a T2600 CPU, 1GB Ram, 1TB Raid 0 HDD, PNY 7900gs 256MB. The tuner cards I am using are the AVerMedia M780 (I added the card with graphedit works AWESOME!), and the Hauppauge HVR-1600. My client Machine is a 3800x2 AM2, 1GB Ram, 200 GB HDD, 7600gs 256MB Video card. I am connected via a 100mb LAN.

My problem is that whenever I try to access live tv from my client I get the Unable to communicate with recording service. I try setting up a recording and get an error on the client machine, but the server with record the show. I am able to watch the shows I have recorded and the ones set up in the Video folders. I checked my firewall and it shows that a connection is being made but no data is going through. I tried the DVR-MS Mux and Cyberlink Mux. I have tried in streaming mode and file sharing mode. I have tried both the SnapStream decoder and the NVIDIA decoder. Any ideas? Neither the ATSC or regular Analog will play in LiveTV mode (I have unselected the live preview mode).

have you opened the correct ports on both machine's windows firewall?
are you using streaming or file share mode?

Tried both streaming and file share mode. Opened up all ports in each mode to see if that was the problem (it wasn't so I closed all but 7968 and 7969). Also on my firewill (Comodo Pro) I can see the connection and I see; client:port (don't remember the port number) connected to server:7968, but no data gets transferred. I can try disabaling Comodo (maybe it is blocking something else) and just try the windows firewall. I would really hate to be without a good firewall like Comodo though....

There are a few technical reasons you can use the DVR-MS mux for doing live tv over a client/server setup, but unfortunately this is the only mux that works really well with ATSC...

Yah the Cyberlink Mux works ok for Live HD viewing (on my main PC) but the main problem is that when recording it seems to take almost 100% of my resources (one HD stream and one SD stream). I assume it is converting everything to MPEG2 on the fly?

Sub I am wondering I have used BeyondTV and they stream HD very well in a server/client setup. Is there any way I could use their mux? They have other problems which is why I really want GBPVR to work.

Its probably the version of the Cyberlink mux you're using. Some are known to cause high CPU usage (for example v5.0.0813)

They probably do things entirely differently. I'm never really used BeyondTV, so I'm not sure what they do. I'm not aware of BeyondTV mux though - no one has ever mentioned one.

yeah, the last port number you said is the one you must have open on the client... it gets angry if you dont. sorry I just couldnt think of the numbers off the top of my head

Thanks for the help everyone I found the problem. For some reason Windows firewall turned itself back on. The weird part is my comodo firewall showed the connection just no data being passed (well like 64 bytes did get through). I think when I did a system restore a few weeks ago, it must have thought well I should go ahead and restore myself too.

Still trying to get ATSC to stream well, but this looks to be more fruitless.
