So I just replaced my Shuttle XPC (kept shutting off) with a refurbed Dell GX280.

I've got most things going but I am having issues getting a good Video Renderer in GB-PVR. VMR9 Custom has tearing and EVR looks better but has purple bars when letterboxed

When I play back Recorded Media or xvid movies in GB-PVR I get tearing. If I play them back with the MPC HomeCinema everything looks good.

What should I try to do to get these to match up?

I am currently using the onboard video which I believe is the Intel GMA 915. I thought about getting a half-profile card but would rather not since I think I may be close. What is FSE (the google is not being obvious)?

FSE = Fullscreen Exclusive, got it. I think I got green borders with this on 4:3 modes.

gma 915 sucks...lots of bugs and stopped driver development long ago..and generally slow compared to g965/+ or even 945..i couldn't get 915 to do anything good..
better off going for a real video card...much better quality and could get hw accel too, cheaply..
get a ati 3400 or better or nvidia 8600 or better..plenty of low profile cards out nowdays..i have a 4650 low profile..Smile
not sure what kind of slot in that one tho..[agp? pcie?]

it's AGP which it seems a a bit harder to find nowadays with any amount of ram. Do you think Vista (running XP Pro) would help me out with EVR as it looks good except for the discolored borders?

This one looked nice but out of stock

Did find this one in stock

I've gotten tolerable results using a 915 with the Overlay renderer, on both GB-PVR and NextPVR.
NextPVR also brought back the old VMR7 renderer, which might work better.

Thanks, I may give NPVR another try. I tried it initially but got crashes so I went with gbpvr which I am more familiar with the setup and my cards

it should work also on gbpvr
its just that when i went to npvr vmr9(including fse) video playback really sucked

evr with ffdshow fixed everything (get slight stutter when something new starts recording but dont mind)
