Forgive me for being a newbie at this but I love GB-PVR.

I want to make it so my TV recordings don't have commercials in them. I tried Comskip and that makes my media player act up but I know it doesn't actually remove them.

Is there an easy way to make it so the finished video file doesn't have the commercials in it? If so how do I go about setting it up or where can I find documentation of how to get it running?

Thanks!

I use Comcut. It's free. It uses the Comskip files and doesn't cause my dvd to act up.

I think some folks use mencoder to do this also and there is a commercial product called videoredo

Comcut is really simple. You can run it in what it calls batch mode.
You select the directory where the file to cut resides and it does it thing. It includes all of the other freeware tools you need in the installation.

i use videoredo but i know that there is a system that I use (except for the cutting out part) called AutoTranscodeCut that will transcode the files to Xvid and cut out the commercials. I use a modified version of it:

Btw,
Are you trying to burn DVD's with the commercial cut output?
You did mention playing them on a media player. Which one are you using?

I am using a Gateway network DVD player. When I use Comskip what happens is the player will get to the skip and then jump to the next video in the library, not the other end of the commercial.

Because converting files to burn to DVD takes over an hour I don't burn DVDs, just stream them and watch them.

I just want the end files to be commercial free. If they were converted to another format that was smaller file size as well that would be awesome.

The biggest thing is that I don't want to do extra work, would prefer a program that runs on it's own against the files.

Comskip doesn't actually do anything to the file. What do you use to stream the file to the Gateway? Does it understand comskip commercial skip files?

The Gateway D5 Media Server is what serves them and it may not understand them. That is why I want to just take them out completely.

I always cut commericals myself... I guess ive never trusted the detector programs. How well do these work at removing commercials anyhow? Ever miss any show?
