Every time I update drivers I go through the hwclear procedure.
This is a pain for me as I have two different Hauppauge boards and they both have IR that I have to disable - it is very much worth the effort though.
However, the only time this has broken wintv2000 was when the UK 'branch' forgot to include a file in the download. This was fixed in a day or so. Every other time it works fine. I use win2000 to give me assurance the new drivers work. I also use win2000 is I have a rare need to copy a tape or something from video in. DVD's are digital, I see no reason to wreck quality by converting down to analogue and back to digital again.
