Every time I update drivers I go through the hwclear procedure.
This is a pain for me as I have two different Hauppauge boards and they both have IR that I have to disable - it is very much worth the effort though.

However, the only time this has broken wintv2000 was when the UK 'branch' forgot to include a file in the download. This was fixed in a day or so. Every other time it works fine. I use win2000 to give me assurance the new drivers work. I also use win2000 is I have a rare need to copy a tape or something from video in. DVD's are digital, I see no reason to wreck quality by converting down to analogue and back to digital again.

All I need to know at this stage is "What checkbox on the dialog removes hcwsnbd9.dll?" I can use sysinternals utilities to track this all down and perhaps should try rather using the forum.

I rarely post and find most info using the docs and google. I do try to ask direct questions.

Dubbing dvd/vcr tapes just isnt something I'm interested in, and not the purpose of GB-PVR. If a user can work out how to do that in GB-PVR, then they're certainly intelligent enough to one of the many one button DVD ripper apps like DVDDecrypter - which will give them a perfect copy.

The problem may be that its different drivers. I followed the wiki post and the problem repeated on 2 systems. I have no idea what others are using as specifics are lacking.

One button ripper apps are indeed good but I deal with users who only like stuff purchased from a retail store. Getting them off WinTV2000 to GBPVR was tough enough.

Your previous description seems easy enough and is a one time task. GBPVR is very user friendly while ripper apps are more geekish.

The quality is more than acceptable for many and works on scratched dvds and any encyped movie produced today or in the future. We just need to get WinTv2000 working after the timestamp fix as posted on the wiki. I'll add trying the .uk downloads to my test case routines as I was using the .coms site and those hosted here.

Nothing wrong with working on your own. Lots of info available online. Its not the question, but the limited info on your setup and the steps you have taken that could help.

I see that file in my windows\system32 folder. I am not sure it is a hauppauge file. It is not one of the driver files listed in device manager for the hauppauge PVR150. The version info for this file calls it the Snowbound raster master, company is Snowbound Software corp. Could be part of the Hauppauge package maybe installed with the apps.

I select whatever option equates to remove all hauppauge pvr drivers and software apps. Have you tried that? Why do you think this file is causing you a problem?

I still recommend following the instructions I linked for you above, unless your OS is unsupported.

I cannot run the utility right now to confirm the dialog message and check boxes. Still recovering from my own little mishap with nvidia drivers.

My poor attempt to pen something was misread. All steps have been noted. I'm confidant that hwclear.exe deletes the dll in question. I have no idea what information I have not given. My chair is right in front of the computer and perhaps it would help if I moved back out of arms reach :-)

The ownership of the dll is simple to determine for anyone who could fix the problem we experiance. It is a hauppauge error message after all.

Determining the results of all the checkboxes is ongoing as it is time consumming to reboot and do a delta on the file system and registery. The failure of the app to lauch and that error message indicates the problem. Again if I just moved my chair a bit....

I know of no supported OS's much less unsupported ones. The problem with software/hardware enviroments is no two people have the same one.

The utility can be started and exited at anytime without altering your existing setup should you wish to view the options.

Please excuse my frustrations as I am an old hacker who hates having to reinvent the wheel while blindfolded.

If you are only running hwclear.exe to clean out the system it might not be enough.
ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/wintv-pvr_...10_pp2.zip

Grab that download there is another batch file to run in there before you re-install. In fact shs recomends doing a clean uninstall this way:

How do good uninstall with older drv and app.
In this kit I add a new file called hcw_unregister.bat.
1: Run hcw_unregister.bat.
2: Uninstall everything from Add/Remove Progams with the words Hauppauge and InterVideo FilterSDK.
3: Run hcwclear.exe.
4: Reboot.
5: DO NOT cancel hardware wizard un-check all Option Search location so that it dosen't fine anything, re-run hcwclear.exe one more time dbl check everything over.
6: Check the Device Mangaer for (?) if you see one rigth click uninstall it.
7: Run hcwclear.exe.
8: Check the registry by searching for key words hcw, wintv, globespan and hauppauge "Note: DON NOT REMOVE the registry key hcw4.0" also beware if using 3rdparty software like SageTV, BeyondTV you may fine some registry don't remove them if not sure just post a reply with registry folder name.
9: Reboot now ready to install new drv and app.

There is only one option I use when I run Hwclear.exe, it is the 4th one down Total removal. THis is the version of hwclear in the download I am directing you to. I actually wouldn't bother with step 8 above.

If after this procedure you still have problems with wintv2k, there might be a hardware problem or other problem with your system. Good Luck...

If 25010 resolves the issue, the wiki will hopefully be updated to indicate its outdated material. I have been changing my flat tire only to put the nail back in the new one. Cheers.
