I have GB-PVR up and running on an 800 MHz processor, 1GB memory system, with a Hauppage PVR-350 connecting to a TV. Seems to work fine (fingers crossed). Now I want to move the system to my main TV, but the problem is the short length of the IR receiver cord - there is no way I can position the computer behind the TV stand and have the IR Receiver extend to a point where the remote can "see" it.

I thought about pointing the receiver at the ceiling and hoping I could "bounce" the remote signal, but I'm skeptical. Has anyone tried this? Or does anyone have any idea how I can extend the length of the IR receiver cord so I can place the receiver more reasonably?

For the record, I searched the forums, the FAQ, and the Wiki documentation but couldn't find anything on this

You should be able to just splice the wire and add some length to it.
You will lose the blaster if you do this though, but if you are only using the IR receiver then this shouldn't be a problem.

this thread suggests that you can use a standard 2.5mm connector to extend the lead

Correct, although you will still lose the Blaster portion.
Not sure if you could find a 2.5 mm plug with three connectors if the blaster would still function...

The 350 doesn;t come with a blaster AFAIK.

Correct - or at least mine didn't.

My IR Receiver cord is terminated with a standard 2.5mm stereo jack. I'm sure male-female extension cords exist - not that I've ever needed to source one though.

Cheers,

LOL - I can change the channel on my TV with the remote pointed at the wall behind me (if I get the right angle). Not the most reliable way of doing things though. Smile

Thanks, folks, for the fast responses. I'll have to pick up a 2.5mm extension and try it out. Since I don't need the blaster, that's not an issue.
