You need to run it periodically. If think the movie listings are updated on Thursday every week. I run my update early Friday morning through windows scheduler.

I think I would use both providers if one had a theater that the other was missing otherwise I would stick with one. Once you get all of the IDs you should be all set.
The only problem I have had with the plugin is I think related to when I run config. I think it clears the film list when I look at the cinema config.

I think it's supposed to be working already. Here is the excerpt from v2.2

Added film poster lookup.
Added IMDB star rating lookup.
Now shows when the film listings were last refreshed.
Fixed problems with local listings being out of sync with the config.
Now shows film times / info on multiple pages, sorted by type.
Various small bug fixes.
