Hello

I am having trouble with my DVR. There is a refresh rate bar that moves up the screen and is very annoying. At least thats what I think is going on. You see these bars in videos that are taken of CRT Monitors because the refresh rate of the monitor is different from the speed of the film. The difference shows up as a bar that scrolls up the screen.

I have that same bar connecting my computer to my tv. Its not just in GB-PVR but exists in any program I run.

If I am going to use my GB-PVR as a dvd player I really need to get rid of that bar.

My video card is a Geforce 4, and I am connecting to my tv via an s-video cable.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

I think you need to set your graphics card refresh rate to that of your TV.
If you're using NTSC I believe it is 60Hz.

I thought I had it set to that but I'll check again to be sure as soon as my roommates stop watching a movie on the dvd player.

Maybe some sort of interference?

Ok, I went back and checked that it was on 60hz and indeed it was. I then fooled around with it a bit trying different refresh rates. I manually entered 65, 70, 72, 75 and 80hz.

None of them had any effect. As near as I could tell the bars were not moving either faster or slower which is odd because they should have at least changed their speed. I am not entirely sure that the hz was being changed but it at least told it me it was being changed.

At any rate here's some more info on the problem. I actually have a geforce 6800 in this computer not the geforce 4 I thought was in there. More important the bars do not show up at all when the computer is booting. So none during the bios splash screen nor during the Windows loading screen. However once Windows boots up (essentially as soon as I have a mouse cursor) then any dark background makes the bars very easy to see. So its not my hardware its something that Windows is doing.

I still wouldn't throw away the option that it may be hardware (hardware interference) instead of windows settings.

When you boot, the bios boot and initial settings have a more 'direct' hardware path to your TV/monitor. Once Windows is running, additional hardware paths are being used to render to the tv/monitor.

It definitely sounds like an interference issue... it could be something silly like a CPU fan, PSU fan or case-fan's magnets interfering, and you may not notice this hardware interference until you're booted into the Windows desktop. But, it doesn't sound like an S-video cable shielding or an interference issue with your TV, b/c you'd be seeing that when the PC is in POST and booting from the BIOS.

Once question: If you enter your BIOS settings (maybe, press F1 or Del or whatever your MB requires), do you notice the scanline crawling up the screen? I just think the BIOS setup screen's background color (typically blue) would help you notice if you have this problem before entering Windows.

I'm having the same problem, too. I have a PVR-350. I'm sort of used to the scrolling hum bars now although I agree, it's annoying at times.

Any expert advice would be great.

Thanks. That's very possible. I wonder if there's a simple way of testing/diagnosing it and a solution that doesn't require redoing the home wiring!

By the way, when I unplug the Cable TV cable from the TV, the hum bars disappear. It's only when both GBPVR and Cable TV cable are connected to the TV that the bars appear....

So the two cables seem to be interfering...

Any solutions that doesn't require watching live TV through GBPVR? Because some of my TV users don't know how to work GBPVR...
