why use mvpmc dongle? what's advantage?

so i finally got mvpmc dongle to load over crossover cable. strangely, if i'm using the default gbpvr dongle, i don't need tftpd32 program to run, but if i use mvpmc dongle, i do.

when mvpmc is running and i put laptop to standby, i can't get it to restart again by turning on the mvp w/ power button on remote (isn't mvp's wakeup on lan a feature?)

-The music player doesn't do anything

-the file menus has a bunch of linux like directories

-emulation mode brings me back to a gbpvr skin. what can mvpmc dongle do in emulation mode that gbpvr dongle can't?

btw, the most recent beta dongle was very buggy for me....used v 3.3 or something from sourceforge.

tunanugget, mvpmc absolutely needs a dhcp server, it doesn't use a lot of the Hauppauge load functionality, in fact if we on the project could replace the bootloader we would. I actually load my dongle from an NSLU2 NAS rather than depending on a PC.

Right now the WOL packet comes when you enter Emulation Mode. Many people use mvpmc to control more one machine, I have shares on 4 IP's but I guess a configurable list of of servers to wake could be added for power up.

That is actually the interface to slimserver. Personally for music I use the Filesystem because I like FLAC format and streaming internet radio without a PC.

mvpmc is a linux machine. If you mounted shares to Windows Networking shares or nfs shares you would see them.

- wide screen signaling.
- Wake On LAN
- improved recovery from FF/RW on MPEG1 files.
- working volume controls.
- remote power off
- fewer network overruns and collisions, full duplex
- AC3 playback, digital or 2ch (a bit of a kludge using the remote to sync audionnow)
- goal of increasing stability
- software will be ported to other platform
- hopefully more when it is stable.

You should definitely use the alpha dongle indicated on the first message but even the nightly is better than that one.
