I'm wondering about which video card is good for HDTV or if one just wanted the option of HD, which video card is a good performance/price combo. Also, I've read that ATI has fewer issues or problems but is that true?

So, if it's ATI, what about?:
X1950 Pro or X1950XT?

Or Nvidia?:
7900GT or 7950GT?

Most of those cards are similar in price and although, they might be overkill for analog or standard definition, I think they are minimum for getting decent HD.

I'm currently trying to decide or find out which one is best for a HTPC and gives the least amount of heat (or is best for cooling) but still has good performance.

I'm more certain (about what to get) about the tuner card and other computer hardware but still am undecided regarding video card.

I use an X1800GTO (the sripped down X1800 version) which hapilly plays HD video. Processor load on a Core duo is about 25% so the video card is doing the main part of the work.

In the past I have been using Nvidia cards but changed to ATI because of too much trouble (mainly driver and codec issues, the Nvidia drivers are very picky on the codecs it seems).

Read this thread from Csy, who knows more about video related matters than almost anyone on this forum.

I would definitely recommend that you try and get a passive (silent) g/card if you plan to install the pc in your living room.
