You can expand/lengthen the ir-blaster-cable. I've read reports from people doing that. It would be a lot cheaper than an extra system (humming away under your telly)

Thanks, I figured that. My problem though is that I have a PC in the cellar with all my media on it and the TV is about 15 metres of cabling away. I could run a video cable to the TV and use is as a second monitor, however, I will lose the benefit of the remote control facility.

I have a smiliar setup. I just made an extension for the ir cable. Works ok.

I remember Sub once said something about attempting to play HD on an MVP will result in a "brown trousers error". LOL!

It has stuck with me as a general rule ever since.

Just a couple of notes:
First, it's unlikely you got a decent 1080p program (assuming it's around 45 minutes long) into 700MB. The current distributions are usually 700MB for 1024x576 movies, which is a bit higher than SD (usually in Xvid). These distributions are usually called HDTV HR (the HDTV specifies that the source for the episode is HD, not the actual resolution). There are also 720p distributions, usually called 720p.264 (as they're compressed with the H.264 variation of MPEG-4), and with this high-end compression an episodes takes a little over 1GB (it's set to take 1/4 of a DVD-R). Then again, I might be wrong.

When you mentioned that "it doesn't look HD", well, that's an understatement - keep in mind that by default, both BG-PVR and the Hauppauge server transcode video that's not MPEG-2 to the very low resolution of 352x288 (PAL) or 352x240 (NTSC), that's the resolution of a VCD...

At least the GB-PVR can be tweaked to transcode to full DVD resolution by changing the <MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLinePAL> and <MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC> in the config.xml file.

There are many streamers that can handle HD, but they're not quite in the price range of the MediaMVP. The AppleTV, for example, costs "only" $300 in the US, but handles only 720p, and not 1080i/p. If you don't want a PC in the living room, just make sure you get a device that handles H.264 natively. If you want a PC in your living room, remember you'll have to invest in a "silent PC" - the average PC creates too much noise.

Maybe take a look for Netgear EVA8000.

This is a HD player, like media MVP.

There are several UPnP Media players available that do HD. I saw someone already mention a Netgear device. There are a few by D-link as well; the DSM-510 and DSM-520. I've see the 510 as low as $170 recently. It is targetted at HD only, with poor support for analog. But it might be right up your alley.
