Hi,

I`ve just done a fresh install of XP SP2 and everything is working ok, but
I seem to have noticed GB-PVR taking absolutely ages to load up, when
started using a right click on the tray icon and select 'Start GB-PVR'.

It seems to take ages to get to the main screen and hammers my hard drive
for quite a time.

I`ve included a gbpvr.exe log, to see if anyone can help.

Many thanks for any help,

Regards,

Is this only when you try to go to the TV Guide (thats what the log shows)? You cant view the TV Guide until the tv listings have finished loading in the background - how quickly this completes depends on how many channels and days of listings you have. For most people (approx 50 channels and a weeks worth of listing) this is only two or three seconds, but for some DishNetwork or DirectTV users with hundreds of channels and 14 days of listings, this can take a while.

You can of course go to any other screen you want. You'd only get this delay if you clicked tv guide immediate as GB-PVR starts.

This may not be your problem, but that is what it looked like in the logs.

Hi Sub,

Thanks for the help.

I`ve just done a cold boot this morning, and let XP settle down (doesn`t take
long as it`s a new install), and then I just right clicked the icon and selected
'Start GB-PVR' and timed the hard drive activity.

After the initial main menu screen comes up, the hard drive continues to get
hammered for about 25 seconds, constantly. When this settles down, if I select
the TV Guide, the hard drive accesses for about 5 seconds and then the TV
guide comes up.

Still none the wiser really, is there any other logs I can look at, or can you
please tell me where the TV Guide is kept and I`ll try deleting that so there`s
nothing for that to load and see if it makes any difference ?

Cheers,

Highlander

I've noticed this too with the new release. From the time that the main menu pops up until you can actually select an option is 15-20 seconds and the hard drive is getting nailed hard that whole time.

I started seeing this also with the new release.
Start-up, TV-guide, & searching.

I honestly thought maybe my HD was having problems.

But I have directv & they just keep adding useless channels which in turn get added by zap2it.

I must of trimmed 100 channels from my zap2it profile & probably still have a 100 more I can kill.

After emptying the EPG & refreshing I did see faster load times.
Now I just keep GBPVR open & minimized on that PC.

Of course, this PC isn't what I use for watching TV so I can get away with that.

Can you bring up the PC clock, start GB-PVR, note the times it starts and completes, then zip and attach the gbpvr.exe.log and other time details?

I've noticed this also - splash screen stays on for 20-30 secs.

What files are in you c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\plugins directory?

Sorry for the delay Sub, but here`s the results after a fresh re-boot.

Start GB-PVR 4.52.00 pm
GB-PVR hammers hard drive until 4.52.56 pm

Logs included, hope they show something.

From the logs it looks like its ready to be used way back around 4.52.05pm or something like that.

Its normal that there would be a lot of disk activity continuing for a while after that as the show listings are loaded in the background. How long that takes depends on how many channels and listings you have. While this is happening you should be able to do anything you want other than viewing the TV Guide screen. This is the same in every previous release.

Do you think you're seeing something different to this?
