Hi,

great job on this app! i've been using my mvp for the past year with manually adding pads/changing resolutions in the config. i thought i'd come to forums and see whats new and low and behold an app to do just that for me!!!

the reason i'm customizing the resolution is that at 720x480 the ratio isnt 16:9 so the resulting image has the sides cut off on my HDTV. by double clicking on the height box it "fixes" the number to make it 16:9. the resulting number is 405.

My question is about making these changes to output resolutions stick. i've tried just closing the app and also clicking the more button and then save settings button. am i missing something here?

oops, i didnt read far enough down on the "newb mvp/zprocess question" thread. the last couple posts deal with just this issue.

whats weird is that it wont transcode a file to 720x405. when doing it on the fly , i get bounced back to the video library screen. the input file is 624 x 352, so i tried using those for the final output and it still cut the edge off. also it put the image at the top with a huge black pad on the bottom.

any clues on how to get the output file to not get the right edge cut off?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, tired, busy, tired, busy, etc...

Give me a bit to figure something out. I'll bet that I can add that support shortly...

It's not documented very well, but did you try to switch the resolution in ZProcess from 4x3 to 16x9 ?

I have a wide screen that I used to test and test, and I got it working quite well.

The one thing you might not like is a 4x3 720x480 MPG will transcode to a PillarBox, with black on the sides...

If you select 16x9, then a 4x3 video will be set to pillarbox

If you save those settings and load a wide screen video, it mostly fills out the screen. (some padding may occur as the file may not be perfect 16:9)

If you want to use all of your screen, clicking always stretch will disable all maintaining of aspect ratios, and pump out all videos to fill the screen. You could then use the remote to change aspect ratios on your TV...

the avi's that i have are in 16:9 format and i am outputting to a widescreen HDTV. if i use this stretch feature, what output resolution will the resulting file be? i'm at work tonight and wont be home until the morning and will try it then.

my issue up to now has been that the outputted file was some low resolution so that full widescreen looks blocky and pixelated. i'm hoping to transcode in the same resolution (or higher) to maintain what quality i can so when viewing on the big 42" tv it doesnt look blocky. does this make sense?

Yes it makes sense and it can't be done. Basically, when you transcode you are working with the limitations of original file.

MVP is not HD, but will work with a wide screen if configured correctly. The maximum output dimensions is 720x480 NTSC, 720x576 PAL, whether you use a 4x3 screen or a 16:9 screen

don't confuse the aspect ratios of 4x3 and 16x9 with the dimensions of 720x480. the math doesn't work, because they are apples and oranges.

Set your wide screen AVI to 720x480 and 16:9 in the Transcode tab of ZProcess. If you're unhappy, there is nothing else we can do...

simply using the stretch feature and leaving the final res to 720x480 works perfect. the left edge is not cut off and it doesnt look too blocky.

and as i understand, there is no way to allow for different transcoding for different input file resolutions. for example, i want to do what we have been doing using 16:9 input file but also have 4:3 input files. is there a way to have it setup so that they are automatically handled differently or will i have to manually change zprocess when i want to use an input file with a different res?

thanks so much for your support, this has made it so much easier for me.

edit: nevermind, using a final resolution 640x480 on both input resolutions and using the stretch feature outputs a fine quality file. this way i dont have to tinker with any settings.

Glad it worked out

Interestingly, when you use the 'always stretch', you are effectively disabling ZProcess, and the same effect would be to use the original default command line in GBPVRs config.xml
