esimko Wrote:Ok. I have a Digital Cable TV Box that is connected by coax to my Dual VCR/DVD Player which is the coax connected to my TV.

My PVR has 2 pvr 150 cards. One needs to be hooked up to this scenerio. I am thinking between the DVD/VCR player and the TV?

I will still use my MVP's remotely from 2 other TV's.

So you are using the modulator in the VCR to output the signal on channel 3 or something like that and I take it there is a modulator in the Digital Cable Box that outputs on a single channel as well. Not the cleanest setup, but it does have the benefit of not having to change anything but the VCR/DVD to pass the signal or play tapes/DVDs.

The PVR150 doesn't have a modulator like your cable box and your VCR/DVD so unless you want to watch everything via the video card output, you will need to use a separate input on the TV for the PVR. That's your call.
You will only be able to make use of one of your PVR-150's if you don't have analog cable. You will need to use the IR blaster to control the digital cable box as well.
Personally my capture/graphics isn't as good as live tv (it's close but not as good) so I wouldn't want to watch everything through my video card. If yours is exceptable, then hook the VCR/DVD output to the 150 and set it up with fixed tuning. I would be more likely to hook up the 150 to the video input of the tv as a separate connection and switch using the remote.

tipstir Wrote:pastro how do you handle channels above 100 do the clip on audio and video? All channels on the digital box up to 100 are okay. Once I hit HBO 200 and beyond there seems to be a delay.

Tipstir, I'm not sure what you are asking for.Which delay? Audio to video, or GBPVR versus live? On a digital cable box, you are probably using the svideo input of your capture card so the delay shouldn't ever change.

I'll tell you what I have and maybe that will answer what you are asking.

I have analog cable so my channels go to 78 or so and then a jump to 98. I modulate my DVD to 115, my VCR to 118 and my PVR to 123 and insert them on the cable using a combiner and a couple of filters. Since it's done at RF there is no delay between the audio and video if that's what you're asking.

I modulate all of my signals to different rf channels so I just change the channel and I get my DVD, VCR or PVR. I have a central location where all of the cable connects for all tvs in my house, so by putting the signal on the cable with the other channels, all tvs in my house get the DVD, VCR and PVR.
The filters are in because the modulator that I have is a little noisy and effects the analog cable. Using the filters, it limits the interference.
If you want a picture I'll draw something up and post it.

How much does one of those triple modulators cost? or a quad modulator? I have a friend that wants a similar setup, but he want's to stack 4 satellite STBs in a closet and then be able to select which STB to watch by selecting a different channel on the TV.

Maybe $150 for a used quad channel mono modulator.
$250 or more for a user stereo quad.

tipstir Wrote:I already have something like that setup by cable company, since this place had nothing coming in from the street to the house. All the redo of wiring to max gauge and all digital connectors ends.. Signal is good for 8 digital connections, digital phone and internet tier 1.

Pastro nice flowchart, how did you make that one? I know how you got it into PDF Writer.

Powerpoint for that one. I also use xfig on the linux side.
