Moving GBPVR to new computer

I'm currently running XP SP2 with a single PVR 150. I just picked up a faster computer with more memory that I would like to use as my digital recorder. My current GBPVR set up is working well. Does anyone know if I would have any success if I just pulled my hard drive and PVR 150 and moved them to the new computer? I've heard that XP, unlike older Windows versions, can handle this, but I didn't know if GBPVR would like the move. I like the idea of a clean install, but don't have the time to invest right now. I would apreciate any advice regarding the short cut. Thanks in advance.

Unless the hardware is very similar on the new PC then it's unlikely to work. If XP finds hardware which is significantly different (ie. new chipset) it will just give you a BSOD on booting.

You can get round this by doing a repair installation but its only a band aid fix. Much better idea to clear some time and reinstall from scratch.

Like dazzy said, it might work, depends on how similar the motherboards are.

If you try the repair option and it all goes bad, you will have wished you had just done a clean install in the firts place. However I have done the repair fix very sucessfully before when moving a disk between machines that had very different motherboards in them.

FYI: the repair install procedure is as follows:

(backup all recordings and gbpvr folder)

booting from xp cd.
select install
select existing drive with xp on it (c
select repair option

this will put xp back over your existing install without removing existing programs

install motherboard (chipset drivers) obtained from manufacturers website
install graphics cards drivers " "

reinstall xp service pack 2
update xp with latest patches.
