Test your system for HDTV capability. See the instructions at http://www.hdtvtunerinfo.com/HDTVtestprogram.html
I haven't used it yet. I just found it today. I am working the holiday to help pay for my toys and everything else ...house, car, mtb, etc.

It would be nice if everybody tested their system and we could compare the results.

I tried the HDTV test today. CPU ran 30% max. This is the same for GBPVR with regular MPEG2 (no HDTV).

I ran this test with a geforece fx5200 pentium 4 3Ghz CPU and the cpu ran around 35-45% and the demo ran without any hiccups. Weird as the generally accepted minimum for HDTV Playback I thought was a 6600 series card.

I just bought a USB HDTV tuner and playback causes CPU to run at 66% - 80%. It may have to do with the encoding. That test file is mpeg2 while the HDTV file is saved as dvr-ms. According to sub that is the only way to play ATSC back.

I thought that recording was the issue with ASTC and needing the dvr-ms mux and not playback. This thread talks about conversion of dvr-ms to mpeg http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post168327 . My understanding is the dvr-ms mux is "more forgiving of the stream" then other muxs...which has also been my experience.

So you can playback HD broadcasts using dvr-ms but your CPU spikes up to 80%?

I ran about 70% with an AMD 2100+, ATI Radeon 7500 PRO. Better than I thought - I was maxing out playing back my own HD recordings, so I have some detective work to do.

fly,

I too had better performance than I expected (it played)... I have a 1800 MHz p4. I thought it was strange that the OSD box said 720X480, making me think that it was not playing back in HD? What did your OSD say?

It said 1080i when I played back one of my recorded files. I changed the Video Decoder to the DxVA one, and my CPU usage went down to the 60-70% range. Unfortunately the demo only plays for 10 minutes or so. I tried downloading the latest software and installed it (I play back most of my media with VLC anyway), but it was pissy about what it considered "video files". I have a FusionHDTV 1 that was burned up, so I may throw it in the system and re-install the software and see if that would let me play back files.
