Hi,
In search of an answer to my dilema (remote not working when PVR150 and HVR1600 are installed), I contacted tech support. Here is their reply:

"We do not support 2 cards in the system and the remote software was never designed to accommodate it.

I posted this as a seperate thread to help others see this if they are having the same problem or consider this obstacle while building future systems. Moderator, please feel free to sticky, move, delete or whatever else you see most appropriate.

Hope this helps someone avoid the aggrevation it caused me. You would think the designers/programers would have thought of this. Or if they did, they would have noted this on the package as a limitation. Hauppauge, if your listening to your customer base, PLEASE fix this!!!!!

They are talking rubbish I had 4 hauppauge tuners (3 different models) in one pc at one stage and the remote worked fine in gbpvr, I'm sure many would agree with me.

I had some problems working it out myself with just 2 cards(hvr-1100 & nova-t-500).

Finally worked out that even though both cards had the capability of supporting IR, the hauppauge software only works on one (the last card installed, I think).

Since the remote software can only work with one of the two identical input ports there is a severe potential for conflicts. One of them should (could) work (last installed?) but one remote will only control one application (tuner).

The remote software seems to have been licensed rather than developed in-house (hence the obscure documentation of irremote.ini) and I don't think anyone has ever heard from the actual developer.

The Hauppauge tuner and capture software will allow you to select which tuner you want active but they have elected to let third party applications to do all of the simultaneous multi-tuner/multi-card support. (MCE, GB-PVR, Sage, BeyondTV, etc)

They use a Zylog reference design and use their libraries (at least on the pvr150). I had a short back and forth when they got the codeset wrong for UK Sky remotes.

PNP should assign different addresses at boot to the hardware. There shouldn't be any conflicts.

I can attest that multiple Hauppauge's will work in one PC. I have the HVR 1600 working with a remote and the PVR 500. The sequence was the key, install the remote oriented card last. I only installed the drivers for the 500, then installed drivers and IR software for the HVR.

I can't remember where I read this, but it's obvious the Hauppauge rep misspoke. Multi cards are supported. Multi IR interfaces are not. It's a software thing.

My solution would be to get rid of both remotes and install an MS MCE 2005 remote that includes a USB, two IR port beanbag, and IR buds.

Then you'd disable the Hauppauge IR software and use either native GB-PVR MCE remote support, HIP or EventGhost...

It is not unusual for a company to say that one configuration is supported and what you are doing is not supported. What you are doing might very well work (look at oc'ing) but you may not get support.
