Is there a way just to display text anywhere I want on the screen? I tried a special element, but I think those need to be called directly by the plugin.

if you want it to always be there enter it in the back composite image,like:
<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">!-- static background image -->
<CompositeImage name="Background" size="720,480">
<DrawImage filename="..\background.jpg" loc="0,0" size="720,480"/>
<DrawText text="THE TEXT I WANT TO DISPLAY" loc="5,5" size="160,120" textStyle="ScreenName" align="Left"/>
</CompositeImage>[/QUOTE]

Is there another way? the plugin I am skinning (Shutdown) automatically calls background.jpg

it overwrites the image I am trying to call.
If i give it a different filename, it calls the default background.jpg from the bluetheme.

the shutdown plugin uses a background.jpg file in the shutdown folder ie %skinnam%\shutdown\background.jpg so theres probably a blue background in that folder if that is appearing. the only way to display text with that plugin is to save the text as part of the background. sadly a lot of plugins cant be skinned easily.
