USB-UIRT 1

I got my USB-UIRT today. Trying to teach it the codes for my DirectTv box .

When I hit NEW it starts that 'press 1 on your remote control' thing...but it screams through it without me hitting anything. As soon as I hit NEW I am looking at the 'Release the button' prompt. The the 'Hit #2' flashes very briefly and I get 'Release the button' for another 5 seconds...and so on....

A couple of other users have had this problem in the past. From memory, they didnt have to do too much to get it working correct. One thought it was related to ambient IR light, and found that isolating the learning process (pillows/box/material) helped. One other claimed it worked after a reboot. Anyway, there may be some more info in those old posts, so hit the search button.

Thanks much. I restarted and after a couple tries got it to program correctly. Now I have a new problem

When I got to a channel that has the same number twice in a row (like 233 or 113) it seems to only get that 'doubled' digit once. As if the signal is being sent too quickly for the box to recognize to distinct '3's being sent. I'll do a search on this as well but if you (or anyone) knows off the top of your head how I might handle it, I'd be (once again) most appreciative).

**** edit *** I hunted around a bit and I find that the sat box is expecting 'alternating codes' for repeating numbers. This is something I would need to alter in the gbpvr plug in but I am at a loss for how I'd do that...any thoughts?

This is a problem I had. The solution is relatively straightforward, and involves learning the codes twice for each number. It is not a GBPVR plug in issue, and needs to be solved by retraining your USB-UIRT, and creating a new remote text file ( which you will then insert into GBPVR). John at USB-UIRT is familiar with this issue, and can give you the detailed low down on how to get round this problem.

I did exactly this and - as you'd imagine - it solved the problem! Whew! what a relief...this was the last thing about my home brew PVR not working.

I've emailed John to ask him the details, and to check if there is something I can do to make it easier for users that encounter this.

It's really not THAT difficult to fix, but since it's gonna be a problem for so many people here in the States, I'd be good to have a solution handy. His walk-through for me was great and made fixing it easier. Maybe include it as a known bug issue with the USBUIRT? Thanks for all your help.

Or if you guys send my the ir files that you learn't, I'll include them with the release so the users dont have to learn them themselves.

Okay, I got it fixed. This is the definition IR File for a Phillips DSX 5500 DirectTv box for USBUIRT. It works with the double digit code entry, etc.
