Well, after much searching all I could find about the D3A firmware was that some of these models had a capacitor reversed which caused it to overheat and only work for a few minutes at a time.

I don't have this problem myself and I'm not sure if there is anything else with this revision but I dont think there is much to worry about.

Tipstir...

Are you saying D3 is no good but D3A is ok? Cuz that's the one I have. I run it for hours and it runs fine. I have the same issue as pbones about the reds bleeding but everything else is OK.

D3a is fine, its the D3 model which had issues. As for the colour problem, the ocnsenus on shspvr.com is that people are hardware hacking the box to fix this issue. Someone has stated that a resistor or capacitor being used in not good enough, etc. etc.

Cheers,
Colin.

I talked to someone from Hauppauge and he said that D3A has wire rap fixes for the previous problems. Rev E incorporates the fixes into the boards. The only have D3a at Hauppauge and probably wont ship the E’s until these are depleted. I think I am going to wait until I can get my hands on an E just in case there is some other fix they didn’t tell me about. The factory is producing E’s, the question is, who’s shipping them?

Just came across this:

shspvr - Are MVP's supposed to look like this?

Any have a D3a that now have an E?
Can you explain the differences?

Thanks Ericwiz… at SHSPVR there is a lot going on it seems they take it seriously. Looks like they want to test the E1 although the one guy did and said it was superb. I will try to get an E1 or otherwise sit back and wait.

I would love to have someone that has had both revisions compare and contrast the differences here or at shspvr and hopefully someone will shortly.

I may go out to circuit city tomorrow and open a couple of boxes to see what hey have. If they have an E1 I'll buy it and compare them myself and post my results.

I should say that overall I am happy with the MVP I have but, like you pbones, I think it could be better.

Random thought... I wonder if Hauppauge will make a wireless MVP soon.....

Wireless is to slow for this technology, I tried a few including the d-link and if you want responsive control like fast forward you need at least 100mb. The wireless turbo G really doesn’t stack up to 100mb wired. Actually a unit with some substantial RAM would relieve some of the requirements for band width.

Circity city only has D3a. Does anyone know who can get an E1?

I run wireless G now with a linksys bridge and router. At first it was horribly slow but after I updated the MVP software it works like a charm.
