Madness or missing something? Live Tv files

I am new to GB-PVR, and the more I learn how to use it, the more I like it.

I was doing my first prolonged viewing of live tv this morning. After a while it bombed out (dind't grab the error). I looked in the live tv folder, and I found every channel/instance of watching still had a file. The one I was watching was up to 3Gb.

Since no one else is complaining about not having any disk space at all from this, I think I must have the problem. Restarts, closes, shutdowns, etc, don't seem to purge them.

On a side note, I had an debug error about the archiever dll last night, and thinking it was just part of Jeff's plugin, I took it out of plugin. Was I wrong, and does that clean up these messes?

The files a supposed to be deleted a few minutes after you finish watching the file. It may take up to 15 minutes before they're deleted.

These live tv filenames are stored in the database, and GB-PVR will periodically reload the list from the database, and will try to delete the files (if they havn't been manually deleted). If the file no longer exist, it then removes the file from the deletion queue.

One follow up then: What is it doing when I just keep watching the same channel? Can I assume it creates a new instance at a certain point, or does the file just grow until you change the channel?

Even if it made a new file for a new show, watching something continious like Headline News would eventually break it.

Yes, it changes at the end of the show.

Yes, this indeed could be a problem but one I decided not to solve for now. I decided leave that gem for a rainy day.

Ok...this is good to know. I have this on a 80gb drive (generally 60Gb free), so space is a consideration.

I guess if there had to be a solution, it would be nice to tell it you want a time or size limit. When it hits that, it would make a new file the same way it does for new program.

Even better would be just to say you want a limit to the contents of the live tv folder, and have it purge/make a new file then.

I'll look at it in a later release. It hasn't been a huge problem.

Many EPGs (like zap2it) dont list this as a continuous show, instead they list it as repeating chunks of an hour or half hour.

Thank...you're really on top of this and responsive. Kudos on both, and a lot of great work.

I think the only thing then would be watching an epic film (3+ hours) like Titanic or something.

Of course, I get what I deserve for watching Titanic...

3hr movies aren't that much disk space. Its up to the user to make sure they have the space available.
