Kiwi's - Best NZ capture card?

It's definitely 1080p (It's Panasonic's New Model out - EH57). It will output what the TV can handle - in my case - 1080i, but in time a new TV will come along

You mention component capture - but I haven't seen anything that can capture with component connections? Any recommendations?

ok well there is a pvr3000...

Remember having components inputs does not equal being able to record high def. The PVR3000 can only record a standard def 480/576i signal from those inputs.

i know but do you reckon the signal would be of better quality than svideo
I have found svideo pretty crap in the past
plus the signal he is puting in will only be that anyway as he has my sky and a dvd recorder

I've only recently upgraded to S-video, because the DVD-REc had it and I discovered it's way better than SCart (Which the DVD-rec also has).

I've been running scart from Sky (a one cable deal). I've been wanting to upgrade to a component setup, but it was a hassle because I don't have access to the back to the gear (currently) and I couldn't be bothered pulling it all out to plug it in. When I got the DVD-Rec, I had no choice. At the end of the day, I decided it was easier to run S-video from Sky through the DVD-rec into the amp and out to the TV. This way I could run it all through one input (and you can't run S-video and component from Sky at the same time it would seem). Having to access the menu and switch it manually all the time seemed too painful, so I stuck with S-video. The reality is this, the step-up to S-video is quite surprising and seemingly refined somehow through the DVD-rec (more cleaner and sharper - could just be HDMI?) Anyway, overall I'm very happy. If I can capture the level of detail via the PVR-150 as I get from the DVD-REC, I'll even be more happy......

yeah you will find that the up scaling of your tv what ever your tv is is crap thats normal
another reason a pc can do the best job of scaling to fit the tv you have
maybe the dvd player etc may be better than they used to be but computers these days i still reckon are better but we could argue that point till the cows come home
im just interested in what other people do and come up with for their situation
but from what i can work out you want the best signal going to your tv so your tv has to do as little work as posible

the thing with analog signals is you need good cables loss is problem as it can move colours etc make people head funny shapes the list goes on
digital doesnt matter you either get a signal or you dont so you save on buying cables

The Scart should be the same as the s-video, as they both output the same signal. When I had my sky box hooked up, I had a scart to s-video cable (and 2 x audio obviously)

The scart plug has Chrominance / luminance connectors, maybe they were not connected up in the scart cable - effectively making it a composite video cable with 2 x audio.

The good thing about the Sky scart cable, is that if you have the input connectors hooked up, then you can use your sky box as another AV channel just by switching it off (or tuning to channel 199 - SCART VCR input)

yeah i knew that would be next why do you think the government wants to go digital so they can control what you watch they control everything else in our lives ..............

the thing is as soon as they come up with something someone else will crack it making us all criminals

I don't think the present govt. is too worried about IP & copyright protection, but more in the appearance of complying with international laws.

The move to digital was always going to happen. It's easier to squeeze another 15 channels (of crap?) into the available boradcast spectrum which NZ has for public broadcasting when compressing into MPEG2.

NZ had reached the limit of the specturm which BCL had licences for (I think - maybe I'm making this up..)

the svideo cable on some machines seems to be better than the scart and vise versa you have you try each one and see which one it likes
plus you buy $5scart cable and compare it to a $100 svideo cable which one will look better you would hope the svideo one
