Ah, okay, I hadn't deleted ePSXe prior to installing GameZone, so maybe the wiki should be updated Wink

No need to roll eyes Wink It was just a suggestion to update the wiki so it reflects a problem that isn't mentioned there...

Is this the part you're refering to? "If you have ePSXe already installed GameZone will detect this, if you deleted ePSXe prior to installing GameZone then this can cause an error, this is because the ePSXe does not remove the keys from the registry, these keys are detected by GameZone and the error results, the current solution if this occurs is to remove the ePSXe keys from the registry and then run the GB-PVR config applet again."

I had ePSXe installed and I hadn't deleted ePSXe before I installed GameZone. Therefore, by reading the wiki, I expected GameZone to detect it, and as I hadn't deleted anything, it shouldn't result in an error.

So, aparently it can produce the same error if you actually does have ePSXe installed and GameZone doesn't detect it propperly. The solution to the problem is the same as if you had deleted ePSXe, though.

Everything is working fine now, it's a great plugin! Thanks for it and the help Smile

i had deleted the reg keys, run the config - everything is fine ...
i configured the eSPXe part in GameZone, saved it and exit the config.
re-import the eSPXe reg keys ('coz this is how i configured it),
run the config again and get the same error ............ Sad

Hi Guys,

Its fairly obvious there is a limitation here, most likely in my understanding of how people will use their computers. It would seem I made some fundamental assumptions which it turns out were not correct.

The easyist way for me to resolve this is actually just to remove the detection of ePSXe and insist that all the settings are setup in both epsxe and Gamezone this doesnt seem the right thing to do to me.

What happens is that when the config applet detects the registry entrys for ePSXe it makes an assumption that ePSXe is installed - first potential issue
second issue is that the ePSXe has ALMOST everything one could want of how ePSXe is (or was) configured except the location of epsxe.exe! so when the user goes into to the config applet they need to still set up the paths for the location of ePSXe and then save, this path is then added as a key in the registry along with the enabled state and possibly some other stuff cant recall right now.

third issue ePSXe does not clean the registry entries out when it is removed.

If anybody would like to add how they feel gamezone should cope with ePSXe then please feel free to add comments here so we can discuss the suggestions and if required I will amend its current behaviour.

(Can I roll my eyes now? Big Grin )

Cheers

Hiya
Thank you for this plugin, i been after something like this to add to the mighty entertainment system Smile

anyway, with mame, i have version mame0116b.exe istalled to the default game zone paths.

C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Gamezone\Paths

I can add a rom and build a database but when i click on the ok button it complains about the directory not being empty.

here is the error.
after a bit playing i deleted the contents of the mame dir and it deleted the whole dir?

why would it be doing this?

Thank you
Peter

Hi Me again

In fact this is for any emulater, am i putting the emulater files inn the wrong dir's?
The plugin tries to delete emulater files from the path above.
if i take all the emulaters out then its ok but of course i cant play games apart from the PC games.

I have only installed dosbox 0.7 mame 111b and the epsx that came with the plugin.

*goes to read wiki* again.

Thanx

Hi Peter,

I believe its a simple misunderstanding.
you can install your emulators anyway you want with one exception the "paths" directory.

Why is this you may ask? weel the paths directory is used by gamezone to store files when you configure multiple ROM Paths in the config applet for Gamezone, everytime you click on OK it removes all the current files and remakes up the directory with the current state of your ROM Paths. it doesnt expect you to have added additional files in that directory.

Where is a good place to install emulators? There is no "best place, I have two areas I use one is a Data Drive which has an Emulators folder and under there I install many of my emulators I also have some under program files\devnz\gamezone\ its up to you when it comes down to it.

If this has not helped you and you need furthur assistance please attach your log file (config.exe.log or gbpvr.exe.log depending what app you are in when you have a problem, its best if you set to debug before making the log.

Cheers

Paul

Hiya Paul

thank you that. Smile worked nicely.
I have a working drive and a data drive as well so am placing the emulaters in their own folder and the roms in their own as well on the data drive.

Just one more question, i have 5 roms in the rom list, i have named them, entered the right extension, game type (genesis etc) and path.

When i go into the gamezone in hte Gbpvr, go to "Kega>>Genesis" hte games are listed, i select a game and then it takes me to the games list again instead of running hte game, if i select a game from the second list it will then run. Under master system it runs right away from the first list but i only have one game for that.

Any ideas? or is it supposed to do that? i have tried putting each rom in its own folder but still does the same. Folders are laid out like below.

E:\Game-roms\Mame
...................|Sega
...................|Snes

I place the sega roms in the sega folder and then add them to the list as above.
I did the same for the emulaters. the dots are for spaces as my spaces were removed and it looked wrong.

Thank you
Peter

Hi,

I have read very carefully what you have said. I may be wrong but I think it may be another misunderstanding.

When you add the folder containg your roms in the rom path list of the configuration applet you only need a single entry per folder, i.e. if you have 1000 or just 1 rom file in the directory you just need to add one rom path.

the first list you see I suspect is the names you gave to the folders if you named them as each file then it would seem that you have to select the same rom file twice.

if I way off base or you need furthur help with this could you attach a picture of your rom psth settings and a copy of your gbpvr.exe.log

Thanks
