How to make a batch file to update XMLTV

Hi, I know I`ve got to make a batch file to run and update XMLTV, so my listings update automaticly, but I dont know how to create batch files.

Can someone please explain how to do this

Check if you have a file in c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr called "updateEPG.bat". This file, if present, is run by gbpvr before gbpvr updates the program guide. If you don't have it already, then you can create it with notepad. Make sure you save it with the extension .bat, not .txt! By default, windows hides "known" extensions from filenames (among those are .txt), so double check

After that you need to find out the proper command line syntax for your xmltv program. I'm making something up here, but essentially you "just" enter that line into your updateEPG.bat file, like so:

NoteThe line above is *not* what you should use. You need to find out the proper syntax for your program.

This one is quite complicated for reasons noted in the post but you can see what its about. The batch file is just text file containing a list of dos commands that get done in sequence.

Instead of using updateEPG.bat , I use a scheduled task to run the batch file as my GBPVR machine is a server running 24x7. Both methods give the same result

I have managed to make a batch file using updateEPG, but with the recent problems with the RadioTimes website, I would like to use cosmocats batch file.
But now I have come across another problem, When I try to make a scheduled task, It will ask me to enter a user name and password, So I just enter a user name because I haven`t got a password set, This brings up a warning message, saying it might not run, because I haven`t entered a password. When I try to run it, it doesn`t run.

Do I need to set up a password to run scheduled tasks?

yeah i had that problem aswell
i think from memory sign in as admin you may have to add a password then change the way you sign in pain in the ass
another way around it is to download the program " hip" free download great program if you ask me
and use the schedule in there

Yeah, I think you need a password. You can however setup a password and have Windows do automatic login even with a password for you. I don't remember from the top of my head, but if you google a bit you should find how to do that.

yeah its one of those things you set up then dont do again till you reload windows

There is a check box you can tick in the Scheduled Task Properties that says " Run when Logged On" or something. Tick that and you don't need a password.

You don't NEED to run my batch file from a scheduled task, thats just the way I did it ( can't remember why now). If you put all the files into the GBPVR folder and rename the batch file to updateEPG.bat that should work also.
