Sub,
My GBPVR program wants access to the Internet but why? I can understand that it has to update my TV listing every now and then but why won't Live TV work unless I give it access to the net? Just wonderering....

Also, I read a post about GBPVR using SQL Database. How can I tell if I have the old database. If so How would I switch over?

Just recently updated from GBpvr 0.98b to 0.99.12

Its not going out to the internet when you watch live tv, but it is using TCP/IP to talk between GBPVR.exe and GBPVRRecordingService.exe, ie for communication between multiple processes running on the same machine. Some firewall software incorrectly reports this as network access, even though it doesnt leave the machine.

The only times it should go out across the internet would be for net radio, you tube, and some of the EPG options.

If you're running the old MS Access, then you'll have the following set it config.xml:

<DatabaseConnectionString>Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=".\gbpvr.mdb";User Id=admin;Password=</DatabaseConnectionString>

Otherwise for SQLite you'll have:

<DatabaseConnectionString>Data Source=".\gbpvr.db3";Version=3;New=True;</DatabaseConnectionString>

To change from Access to SQLite, just run the ChangeDatabase utility in the install directory.

Thanks for the info Sub....... I'll take a look at the data base and see if it Access or SQL i'm running.....

Also, it's ZoneAlarm 6.5 Basic that's reporting the TCP traffic.....
What confused me a bit was I was giving it local access but
it wanted Internet Access. Just kinda stumped me.
I like running a software firewall to go along with my SmoothWall.....

As far as the You Tube feature I don't use it but I do
however use the internet radio feature every once and
awhile.

What plugins do you have installed? Weather plugin?

MVP servers?

Though if it happens when you do live tv, then I'm sure it just be communication to the recording service. Surely zonealarm has some logs that tells you where the connection goes?

Well, I have the TV guide, Net Radio, Live TV, DVD, FM Radio, Recording, System and Exit. You Tube installed but Unchecked.

These are the only one's I really use. As far as You Tube I have it but I unchecked.

Check the zonealarm logs to see where it things the connection is going then.

I'm sure it'll just be the connectivity between recording service and gbpvr.exe. I remember someone else indicating their zone alarm tray icon flashes each time the recording service and gbpvr.exe communicate, so I know it monitors this type of local TCP traffic.
